Poetry
Take heed, O my soul, and cling to the Lord
Lest temptation should cast its dread spell.
For there's pleasure in sin for a season, 'tis true,
But its path leads to eternal hell.
When its song bids thee come to its banqueting hall
To dine on its sumptuous fare,
Remember, O soul, to heed not its call
For thy foe has laid thee a snare...
"One taste of my honey, one sip of my wine,
One bite of the fruit that grows on my vine,
And thou shall find pleasure; come now and dine.
All that I have shall be thine.
Take flight, O my soul, list not to this tune
For 'tis sung with serpentine breath.
The melody sweet is of pleasure and life
... But the last verse shall be of thy death.
Another song beckons, "Come follow Me."
Thou must go by the Way of the Cross.
The pathway is narrow and riddled with strife
And thou mayest taste sorrow and loss...
"My flesh is thy manna, my blood is thy wine.
Enter my sorrow; come now and dine.
Lay down thy life and then ye shall find
All that I have shall be thine.
Hold fast, O my soul, to this loveliest Song,
For the Singer is Jesus, the Christ!
The melody speaks of suffering and death
... But the last verse is Victory and Life!
