Newsflash—INTEGRITY!!

On his return from military duty in Iraq, Bart became extremely frustrated as he read the Shawnee News-Star—his local newspaper. Without exception each story could be categorized as one filled with instances of wrongdoing and corruption at all levels, murders and killings, lying and personal attack of the character of a person just because he revealed his religious preference. There were no stories of people who resisted temptation, the desire to do well by their neighbor, or obey the laws of God. Recently, Bart thought of three friends who might be called unsung heroes for their stanch honesty and integrity.

○ Robert was away on military duty in Iraq for fourteen months. Sure he got lonely and missed his wife and children. But he never complained and said very simply: “I take very seriously my marriage vows and honor them. Doing what is right is difficult, however, it is rewarding. I can face my wife and children and know it is worth it to be chaste.”

○ Jessica recently bought a brand new car that can easily travel at speeds above a hundred mile per hour. She responds: “The posted speed limit is seventy miles per hour. The posted speed limit is designed to allow everyone to travel on the highways in safety. Therefore, I will honor the posted speed limit.”

○ Ken manages the entire budget of the WBC company. He pays company bills and well over 681 employee payroll checks. “Sure I have access to every penny of this company. But I wish to honor the confidence the owner of this company has in me.”

Perhaps these men and woman’s comments seem incredible, not really true or fictitious people, but they are not. Let’s stop and think for a brief moment. Haven’t we all heard statements such as: Cheating on my spouse can’t hurt—Going eighty or ninety miles per hour on an infrequently travel highway is no big deal if there are no cops around—They’ll never miss a few dollars here and there. This is a multi-billion dollar plus company.

As Christians and members of the Body of Christ, we have been given a set of Commandments to guide us in all our ways and to show us the road of righteousness and integrity. When we can accept and follow God’s simple rules of life and living, others will notice you and place you in the highest levels of authority and responsibility. Know also that integrity and God’s law are the principles of your life. And more importantly you will do honor to the God you say you serve.
