The Call of Abram
1.The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your people and your father's household and go to the land I will show you.
2. "I will make you into a great nation
and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you,
and whoever curses you I will curse;
and all peoples on earth
will be blessed through you."
4 So Abram left, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Haran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Haran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.
6 Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. 7 The LORD appeared to Abram and said, "To your offspring I will give this land." So he built an altar there to the LORD, who had appeared to him.
8 From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the LORD and called on the name of the LORD. 9 Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev
Gen 12:1-9

Seven promises to Abram
1. I will make you a great nation v2
2. I will bless you v2
3. I will make your name great v2
4. I will make you a blessing v2
5. I will bless those who bless you v3
6. I will curse those who curse you v3
7. Through you all the families of the earth shall be blessed. V3

Character traits we can observe in Abram

1. Caring- taking lot , his nephew with him v4
2. Kind- as above v4
3. Selfless-put God first v4
4. Faithful- to God and his purposes v4
5. Man of faith- believed God; prepared to leave the known for the unknown v4
6. Obedient-left his home land and family immediately as commanded v4
7. Humility- did not question the call of God v4
8. flexibility-prepared to leave the familiar for the unfamiliar v4
9. Devoted- to God v4
10. Committed- sold out to God v4
11. Prayerful- building n altar where he could call on the name of the Lord v6,7

Lessons for us
1. Be prepared for the call of God
2. Obey Him when He does
3. Obedience should be immediate and complete like Abraham
4. Obeying the call of God requires faith- leaving the known for the unknown
5. We need to be flexible
6. Prayerfulness is important each step of the way
7. We need to be wholeheartedly devoted and humble in our relationship with the Lord.
8. Lot was not supposed to be with Abraham as we see later and Abraham did not go into greater things until he was separated from Lot. This goes to show that we need to avoid letting emotions getting in the way of our call from God. Those who are not meant to be in our boat call cause us unnecessary problems if we take them along
9. All the blessings pronounced on Abraham are available to us- except the last one.
10. God wants to bless us to be a blessing.
