Thou annointest my head with oil
- That's Consecration!
Anointing oil comes from the crushing of seeds of olive. It is usually used on guests to show them how welcome they are. The overflow is a pointer that so long as they are with you they will have abundance of supply.
It makes the face to shine. It is smooth to the touch and fragrant to smell.
. It is used for demonstrating separation for the use of God. Priests were anointed for service.

The anointing is also symbolic of the Holy Spirit He makes us comfortable in the presence of God. He is gentle in His dealings and makes us shine for the Lord. Without Him we are like square wheel to a cart.

We need new mercies, fresh anointing every day to be effective and we need an overflowing anointing. It is the anointing that breaks yokes and destroys burdens.

When Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and with power, He went about doing God healing all those who were oppressed of the devil, for God was with Him. The anointing is for service and when Jesus started His ministry He found the place in the scroll where it spoke of Him saying, "The spirit of the Lord is upon me; for He has anointed me to preach to the poor..."
The more intimate we are with he Holy Spirit, the more our capacity for the anointing will increase .It is like electricity- a heavenly current produced by the Holy Spirit. Jesus had the anointing without measure (John3:34) Elisha had a double portion of the Elijah spirit.
David was a highly anointed man of God hence he was able to kill the bear and the lion that came to eat his sheep and later killed Goliath whilst others were quaking in their boots. Later when Saul became insane- troubled by evil spirits , David played his musical instrument .to ward off the evil spirits.

There is always a price to pay for the anointing. It is true that the Holy Spirit is a free gift which we cannot buy. However if we want an increase in the anointing we must pay a price. After Jesus had fasted for 40days,
He came back in the power of the Holy Spirit.
When Moses separated himself for 40 days, communing with God, he came back radiating the glory of God; and the people could hardly look upon his face. Also the more hardships you face, the more the potential for a great anointing, depending on how you handle the problems.

When we look at the hardships Paul faced in 2Cor 11:24-29;-12:1-10, we know why he was so anointed.

In Christ we are anointed because the anointed one indwells us. You need to realize this and acts as one anointed of God, separated for His purposes.

God’s word to your enemies is:
Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm." (Ps105:15)+

Let that be your confidence as He anoints you daily with His Holy Spirit and your cup runs over. Don’t sit on the anointing. Use it to the glory of God. Increase your word bank and reservoir, pray without ceasing and in the Holy Spirit to build you up.
