Will It Go ‘Round In Circles?
Will It Fly High Like An Eagle Up In The Sky?

One of the most difficult things to go through in life is to do something you know before you attempt it, will, without a doubt, fail you or cause you to be defeated.

Your team goes into a football game where everyone on the other team has been together for at least four years, they are big and strong, and your best two players are out with an illness and with injuries. You are going to get beat badly and everybody down to the people working the concession stand knows it but you play anyway.

You are forced to present to the public your candidate’s political campaign video when his opponent has ten times the money than you.

Or you have to tell your teenage daughter that you accidentally destroyed her dream car.

In the spring of 1999 following the May 3rd tornadoes that did damage to much of Central Oklahoma, I was shopping in the Wal-Mart on the far west side of Oklahoma City looking for rear view mirror glue to glue the little button back to the glass. I found the glue among the sparkplugs but when I reached for the glue, the table display sagged and barely hung on the panel that held them in place. I let the display go hoping no one would notice me but in my bright orange Oklahoma State University tee-shirt I was about as inconspicuous as the flashing lights on a red fire engine. Since I couldn’t avoid or prevent what was about to beset me, I decided to make light of a bad situation. Since the display was near an exit to another aisle, I thought if I was quick enough I could act as though I was surprised by the falling of the automotive merchandise. Letting go of the nearby sparkplugs resulted in the fall of the Plug Empire. Section after section of the displayed items dropped off like a beautiful piles of cannon balls I’ve seen in Three Stooges movies of the past. It was a sight that will linger in my mind for a very long time.

As many look at the seemingly sad state of affairs in the world today, the boo birds are out all over the place. They know for certain what the situation is—everything is bad!!! They know this without a doubt! The Democratic Party led by Howard Dean has declared victory in the November, 2006 House of Representatives and United States Senate races. They are reportedly setting in motion impeachment plans as well as plans to make the remaining twenty-four months of the President the worst of any sitting President ever! The left leaning journalists and their equally left leaning broadcast news organizations continue to message the news in the United States and abroad to make it seem as though everything the President is doing or will do will ultimately fail. This is, in their attempts, to re-assume power.

In 1948, Harry S. Truman was soundly and mercilessly criticized by Democrats and Republicans for racially integrating the United States armed services, setting up the Marshall Plan to re-vitalize the enemy German economy as well as Western Europe following the devastation of World War II and when he reduced taxes following the end of the war with Japan in 1945. Following the November elections, Truman held up a newspaper that declined Thomas Dewey the winner. Truman went on to become one of the great Presidents of the 20th century in spite of poor poll numbers, having fired a popular World War II General and having sent United States military personnel into Greece and Korea to halt the spread of Communism.

Will our Republic go round in circles? Or will our Republic fly high like an eagle? Only God knows the future and the certainty of events. Any activity a human does or considers doing is purely guess work and chance should the events end as expected. We, as Christians, need to be prayful and pray oriented rather than pessimistic that God will take care of us in our times of need.
