Yea though I walk through.. I will fear no evil


Yea though I walk through the valley of the Shadow of death I will fear no evil. That’s confidence
David knew what he was talking about. Valley experiences are painful, awful and often shameful. He experience many in his life even after writing this psalm and you and I will.
In times of our valley experiences we may feel abandoned by friends relatives family and even God.. It may seem as if the Lord does not hear our prayers or is against us.
But it is comforting to note the poignant phrase of hope ’though I walk through’. The valley you face or will face is temporary and not permanent. It is a phase and a passing phase at that. And just as it was written ‘ and this shall come to pass ‘ so shall it be . that situation that now poses a great challenge to you shall come to pass. There shall come a sell by date and it will be over. You’re going through a process to obtain the promise. And that promise will not elude you or me.
Whatever odd situation we’re in. we are walking through, not pitching our tent there for good. We are not making our bed there or parking there forever. It is not a cul desac. In Jesus name. God will bring us through.
The shadow of death. This is another important phrase. What seems like the darkest dungeon, greatest gloom and doom that wants to continue to loom and boom in our life is the shadow of death- not the substance of death itself. It may raise its ugly head pretend to be magnified by our adversaries as your ultimate demise but God says through his servant David that it is ‘valley of the shadow of death’.-not the substance. Jesus, your Redeemer, Saviour, Perfect Sacrifice, Sin-Bearer, when he died on the cross took the full force and penalty that we deserve. He took your punishment, my punishment, the pain, shame and guilt that we deserve. He took the substance of death so that we can only take the shadow of death.. Compare the shadow of a tree and the full force of the tree itself. Which would you prefer to fall on you? At Calvary the substance of what ever you’re going through fell on Him for the shadow to fall on you. That shadow is your cross or my cross which is inevitable as Christians. That was why he said we should each take up our cross and follow Him.

Paul shows us that Jesus took the substance of our afflictions when he encouraged us:
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. 2Cor4:16-18

I will fear no evil
Because Jesus has borne the brunt of my death.
I will fear no evil
Because Jesus is faithful
Faithful is he who has begun this good work
He will bring it to a glorious conclusion to His glory
I will fear no evil
Because He has not given me a spirit of fear but that of love power and sound mind.
I will not fear,
Because He said I should not fear he will never leave me nor forsake until the end of the age.
I will not fear,
Because He has given His angels charge over me.
I will not fear
Because the Lord is my victorious banner, who fights for me.
I will not fear
Because God is my refuge and my strength; my ever present help in trouble.

This Valley Is Not Permanent

This valley is not permanent
I’m walking through
I’m in transit, it’s transient
God will bring me through
It is the valley of the shadow of death,
Not the valley of the Substance of death.

My suffering is for a moment.

Jesus took the full force and substance of death- my suffering.
He did it for me to go free; for me to see;
for me to be sound in my health.

Therefore I am coming out by His grace
And in His house I will give praise
Singing, ‘Great is Your faithfulness’ all of my days.
