Prayers

Lord, Here I am.
Not, “Here I am,
With all my talents,
all my accomplishments,
ready for anything.”
No.
Rather, “Here I am,
flawed and selfish and outright sinful.”

But I don’t have to fix myself or clean myself up.
Not because I don’t need it,
But because only You have the power
and will
and love
to transform me so I can fulfill your purposes for me.

You call, and I say, “Here I am.”
Just as Abraham responded,
not knowing that you were about to ask him to sacrifice his son.
“Here I am,” just as Moses replied
at the burning bush,
never dreaming he would become the leader of Your people.
“Here I am,” as Isaiah said
when you had cleaned his lips to speak your truth to a rebellious nation.

Here I am,
The broken vessel
Ready to be mended and used by You.
Here I am,
Impure gold
Ready to be fired and purified.
Here I am,
Waiting for Your loving hand to re-create me
into the child you intended me to be.
I want You to use me.
All I can offer You is what You first gave me.
I have nothing that is not from You.

This morning, I say, “Here I am” to You.
Not just today in the mood of the moment,
But every day, whether I feel Your presence or not.
“Here I am.”
Let that be my heart’s willing response
For all You have done
and continue to do
out of the depths of Your love,
Which you have expressed to me through Jesus,
and it is in His name I pray.
Amen.
