Humor
Recently, I celebrated a birthday. Birthdays mean presents (yeah!).
I love cows. I collect cows. All kinds of cows. I even have cow curtains.
My daughter seems to have a knack for finding unusual gifts that fit perfectly with a persons interest. She got me a cow cookie cutter with a recipe attached.
Yesterday, my thirteen year old son and I decided to try it out. I made the dough in the afternoon and put it in the refrigerator to chill as directed. At eleven o'clock p.m., we ventured into the kitchen to roll it out.
What a mess. The dough was hard and unrollable. We kneaded and pummeled and slammed the stuff on the counter, trying to work with it. No luck.
After much thought and hard work, we managed to roll out one--ONE--perfect cow.
"I'm too tired to do another one," I announced, flinging the leftover dough back into the bowl, frustrated. "I'll just cook this one for you."
I shoved it into the oven. My plan after baking was to take chocolate chip pieces and melt them and then paint them onto the cookies to make 'cow' spots.
Even though I had only the one cookie to work with, I decided to forge ahead.
I placed the chips. I went to put on my lone cows eye and broke off his head! Meanwhile, my son is standing there beside me, laughing hysterically, and I could barely hold my eyes open!
I shoved the broken head piece back on, and began painting the now melted chocolate pieces onto the cow with the tip of a potato peeler. That didn't work well either, as I was so thoughtfully told by my son, "Mom, they don't look like cow spots. It looks like that cow has been rolling around in you-know-what."
I glared at him, and snarled, "Just eat the cookie! I'll do better tomorrow!'
He ate it, and pronounced it good.
So now I am being challenged by my beloved cows.
I will get it right this afternoon after work if I have to die doing it. I love a good challenge, don't you?
