The Path of Loneliness


I thought we would never meet
My path was so slippery
Yours was so refined


Then to my amazement
They met and were intertwined
Two upon an upward path

I saw you ahead of me
You were singing with a joy
And my heart was filled with awe

A few short steps to a friend
I shouted here I am
Thank God I'm not alone

That's when you turned around
And saw mud, sweat, and blood
I was unclean.

I remember crying
Crying with hurt and pain
Crying over your rejection

But God was there
To wipe away my tears
And ease my pain

Now I stand here
Still wishing we could walk together
Wondering why you forsook the higher ground
