The Happy Heretic

The Beginning
Please……..prove me wrong. Prove me to be a heretic spreading a vicious lie. I would be a very happy camper if anyone reading this article could prove it so. Before I began this study in 1993, I was just a regular Christian on a search to answer one of Christendom’s most plaguing questions…should Christians tithe? Having been a Christian for a number of years, I had no problem putting money into the collection plate. As a new convert in 1972 I began devouring scriptures, reading mostly New Testament. Years later, it had come to a head. Was my conclusion wrong? Based on my reading of Galatians, I had concluded that the appeals for tithes was against the command to “stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage”. Now I lay out all of the scriptures on tithing before me and challenge God, ‘Please speak to me out of these words because I am not getting it.’

God spoke. Not with a loud voice but with a calm revelation. It was on Deuteronomy 14:25. “Then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which the Lord thy God shall choose:”. The answer came with my question; ‘does this money represent the thirty pieces of silver for which Christ was betrayed’? Having now a good background in Old Testament types and shadows these many years later, this was not a difficult question for me to ask.

I was bowled over with the question and the ramifications of it. Was this a cruel cosmic joke I asked God in my spirit. (If God were to play a joke, it would of course be cosmic.)
Imagine, every tithe collected is a celebration of Christ’s betrayal! You have to realize that in the big scheme of things, God hid the New Testament in the Old. In all of the food laws there are elements of the New on display. Eating the tithe “before the Lord in the place He has chosen” speaks to me of the Last Supper. It then seemed to me a natural flow of thought to then find the betrayal of Jesus at this meal. This was my thought then, and it is my thought now thirteen years later but with more background and proof. All tithes collected are a reflection of that act by Judas at the Last Supper.

I would be happy if anyone could change my mind on this. It did throw me for a loop, and I have not recovered. Please prove me to be a heretic. This would make me happy. I am warning people for nothing if this is the case. I am between a rock and a hard place. Keep silence and keep the peace or scare everybody away from the practice. If it is true and I keep silence, then what will God do to me for keeping silence. I will leave it to you, the average Christian to decide. “In the multitude of counsels there is safety.”

Let me warn you before you read on. I have killed a number of pro tithing blogs. They either stop posting my discourses or they simply leave my posting as the last post.

Putting It Together
1. Exchange of tithe (which is holy) for money.
2. They weighed for my price (wage) thirty pieces of silver.
3. The manna and the fruit of the land are twins. Both had tithes taken and put into storage. Put money into the storehouse only if you agree to replace the manna with money (the bread of heaven) in the pot.

4. The priesthood of Christ is only one way. That is, He offered himself once for all. To make his priesthood a receiving priesthood would make your money equal to his blood.

5. The tithe was the Levites inheritance in place of the land. God said of the future priesthood, You shall give them no inheritance, I am their inheritance. To receive a tithe is to reject the offer of himself.

6. Abraham made an oath to “not take to a shoe” of the goods of Sodom (including the tithe). Amos expounds on this statement of Abraham. In chapters 2 and 8 of Amos, they buy and sell the poor for a shoe says the prophet. Both the buyers and sellers come together in Zechariah 11, the thirty pieces of silver chapter. This links Abrahams oath to the thirty pieces of silver prophecy.

7. Jesus parable of the tares and wheat is an explanation of Deuteronomy 14:25. It is the people who feast on the wheat who are gathered together as wheat in his storehouse (barn). It is those who bind the tithe money in hand who are bound together as the money and thrown in the fire. The tares are tithe collectors.

This is an overview of a very lengthy subject. You will glean much on tithing if you compare it to it’s twin, the manna. How many parallels can you find. I have found at least eight. Did you know that they tempted God for water after they tithed the manna into the pot? This is the meaning of ‘prove (tempt) me now for windows of heaven (water)’. You will need to know the Hebrew for these words to get to the meat of the subject.

Therefore knowing the terror of the Lord, we persuade men. Do we put our heads in the sand and pretend, or do we face the Lord directly with open hearts and open minds. Please make me the happy heretic if you can. I don’t think you can. The scriptures are clear. God is not counting the money, men are.
