Extremes

Lord, I want to be extreme
I worry too much, it sometimes seems
About going overboard on an issue
Now too much caution, I may miss You

I want to let completely go
All out, so the world will know
I want to be overwhelmed it’s true
Needing to be extreme for You

Too much religion loses the meaning
Too much need seems to be clinging
Too much of this thing will do
Too much of that one will too

Let me be fool for the cause
I want to let go without pause
If I don’t give everything my all
It won’t be long before I stall.


Brethren,

Greetings in the name of Our Lord. Peace.

How often I worry about going too far on many things. I have been in the practice of developing good habits, evening reading, afternoon study, morning prayer. I have been attempting this practice to help get and keep me focused upon God and His Word. The more "Spiritual Pitstops" I make, the more chances of me staying in the Spirit and not the flesh. But then in comes the worry of being "religious". You know that "religious" that replaces true worship with emty or hollow routines.

There are many other examples of fearing extremes, but I want to focus on our safety device. We have this wonderful gift that allows us to know if we are stepping out of worship and into empty religion. We have this warning system in place that helps keep our motives in check. We have been given this by God, sent by Jesus Christ. It is the Holy Spirit. His purpose is to guide us in our everyday lives to avoid pitfalls. So I have decided to stop worrying about being extreme in areas and allow the Spirit to do His job, keeping me aligned with God.

I figure if we focus on being Christians, then we will be guided by the Spirit in all things and avoid those unhealthy pitfalls.
