II
Silent stillness enfolds the earth,
darkness embracing the deep,
quiet brooding, awaiting birth,
waking life from eternal sleep.
In anticipation, the heavenly court,
sits in eager expectation, awaiting
Omnipotent God’s creative thought,
so builds angelic excite, not abating.
Lo! All spirits sit in silence,
no talk, no song, no sound at all,
nor even echo of Lucifer’s violence,
all sit, wondering what words will fall,
from terrible tongue, majestic and divine,
‘tis the hush before the rising curtain,
Lo, seraphim! Lo, cherubim, in awesome line,
all suck in breath, all wait, uncertain…
Gently begins the rippling wave, how soft,
gathering the water, to outwards radiate,
in gentle circles, inspired, leaping aloft,
growing, swelling, awesomely undulate
the new-born waves, small, now grow,
out and up, with watery splash,
once small, now mighty, - lo!
white foam with thund’rous crash,
plunges back and comes to rest –
a swelling symphonic surge,
bursting from God’s own breast.
God breathed upon the surface of the deep…

Now all spirits gathered round,
peering out in wond’rous awe,
when bubbling up a mighty sound,
climbing crescendo of mighty roar,
mounts up and from divine mouth springs,
hark! All of heaven resounds, such power,
so mightily from holy mouth sings
incredible utterance from celestial bower:
“LET THERE BE LIGHT!”

Behold light floods the void of dark,
spreading a vaporous sheet
of porous light from blinding spark
the ends of the earth to meet –
Heaven’s canopy now illume,
with graceful golden hue
dispelling shadows of dismal gloom,
a sparkling crown of azure blue
stretched o’er the wat’ry ‘xpanse,
all bright – yet never blinding,
a fitting field for angels’ dance,
constant, yet various finding
vast vistas for angelic eyes,
accentuating God-breathed waves
to the sound of joyful cries
as Heaven’s path it proudly paves,
so Heaven’s hosts delight,
in newly created sense
of newly created light.

Darkness and Light indistinctly embrace
in golden twilight, confusedly calm,
mixed ambivalence, albeit with grace,
sees the Almighty with puissant arm
outstretched across the deep so declares
to cleaving separate the two,
a perfect Paradise, passionately prepares
into which His qualities imbue.
Thus sending forth with razor-edge,
erecting ‘twixt the Dark and Light,
His holy Word, a dividing hedge,
on one side Day, the other Night.
Now with vehement voice
God maketh this pronouncement,
and at His Words of choice
all Heaven trembles, the announcement:
‘IT IS GOOD!’
Emanating outwards, Almighty’s pleasure,
fills highest Heaven with laughter, holy,
joy unspeakable, in boundless measure
as angels fall to worship solely,
the One who sits on Heaven’s throne,
newly crowned Creation’s King,
for ‘twas Him, and Him alone,
that created everything.

And there was evening, and there was morning, the first day.
