Undo the Darkness

Undo the darkness,
Release the night,
Pin up the stars
Heaven to light.

Put away the houses,
The animals and the trees,
Roll up the grass,
Earth on our knees.

Close down the world
And open up my head
Paint with wild colours
The quick and the dead.

We used to play games
We used to play fair
I used to lie in your arms
And I used to care.

I’m still just a little boy
And I easily scare
When facing a tiger,
And a lion and a bear.

Undo the darkness
That lies at my feet,
Unzip the night
As it pounds its beat.

Its all topsy-turvy,
It’s night instead of day –
It’s getting too real,
I thought it was play.

There’s been a huge gap
Too many years
Forgetting the song
Swallowing tears

Now you DO undo the darkness
And release the night
But the stars are falling
From heaven tonight

The sky is rolling up
And the mountains fall
The game is over
For the short and the tall

And I wish I had stayed
In that childhood place
In the safety and comfort
Of your warm embrace.
