If God isn't the answer, then there is no answer. The whole thing is a gigantic exercise in futility. Nothing makes any sense without God. Life certainly doesn't because death effectively cancels it. If the grave is the end, then birth was nonsense.

When the Lord asked Peter if he too would go away, he gave a common sense answer: "To whom shall we go? You have the words of life." Exactly. When people reject God, they are not going another way; they are rejecting the only way. If there are many paths up the mountain, it speaks to man's unwillingness or inability to understand God's way. No path will lead OVER the mountain without God because He made the mountain, the path and the traveler. It is not that there are many equal choices laid out in this matter. We actually have only one choice: to accept or reject God's way.

There is in every person a desire and a need to worship and to be in subjection to something or Someone higher than himself: that is, unless it is buried and stymied until it dies. It is obvious to every honest person how limited are the resources of humankind. If there is not a wise and powerful Resource on our side, we're in a heap o' trouble. We stand helpless before an open grave. If that is the end, how futile and useless was the beginning and the years in between. Even the works of a wonderfully good person will live only so long as the memory of those who knew him. If there is not an eternal and future Memory, good works have short-term value indeed. If, when a body lies cold and dead in the grave, his spirit does not return to God who gave it, then nothing makes any sense. All creation cries out at the insult and blindness of disbelief. If in this world only we have hope in Christ, Paul says we are of all men most miserable. Education, money, beauty, talent, power, fame: none of it justifies or explains creation if there is no hope beyond the grave.

To deny the spiritual dimension of man is to deny the only significant component. And the only answer to spirituality is God. The key to creation and the life process is the acknowledgement that the spirit of man will live on. And the Creator has laid it out plainly for the truth-seeking heart to see. Before a sinful and wondering world, He sent his Son to graphically illustrate that as surely as we die, we shall live again. Resurrection is as true as death and successfully nullifies it. We're born, we live, we die, but the spirit lives on. And God is the only One who has made provison for the foreverness of the spirit. He has shown us the Way. Jesus walked it before us and waits to receive us--the only significant part of us: our spirit. Everything created cries out for us to believe God and follow His Son. Nothing else makes the slightest bit of sense.
