Introduction
God desires to guide us daily, each step of the way, because His ways are not our ways. His ways are not easily recognizable. But we must want His guidance if we will get it. He does not only give direction, He also gives protection. In other words, there is protection and provision in His direction.

God does not always lead through the shortest way. Why is this the case? V17,18
God is all-wise. God sees the end from the beginning and knew their heart. He knew they would be discouraged if they faced a fierce battle from the Philistines soon after leaving Egypt, so He led them through the longer route, bypassing the Philistines. Hence, some detours in our lives are not from us or Satan but from God. But we need to be close to Him to know them and why He has ordained them.
The reaction of the Israelites when they were pursued by Pharaoh confirmed how they would have behaved had they faced the Philistines soon after leaving Egypt.-14:5-12

Character takes time to build and so also is faith, resilience and tenacity. It comes through consistent walk with God and knowing Him intimately- His ways, His character, His integrity.
Our enemies will pursue us even when God has delivered us. What is our evidence for this? Satan represented by Pharaoh, would want to keep us in his service, in bondage to sin, blindness and indecision. Pharaoh pursued the Israelites with his chariots after he let them go.
Often it is God who allows the enemy to pursue us, to build our character. God hardened Pharaoh’s heart.. “And once again I will harden Pharaoh’s heart…. “v4 “The Lord continued to strengthen Pharaoh’s resolve and he chased after the people of Israel..” v8
He does it also to show His power and glory to you and I and the enemy v4

God’s guidance includes protection. The pillar of cloud protected as it turned into darkness, covering them from their enemies.” …As night came, the pillar of cloud turned into fire, lighting the Israelites camp. But the cloud became darkness to the Egyptians, and they could not find the Israelites.” V20 It is in following divine direction that we can be sure of God’s protection regardless of what the enemy tries to do.

To have divine direction you have to follow God’s leading by faith.
When the cloud moved, they must move. They cannot say, “Wait till tomorrow, I ‘m tired. I have things to do.” They have to be flexible and prepared. Besides, they have to follow by faith, trusting that God knew what He was doing and was leading them to the right place.
God uses His word and can also use signs to direct us. He spoke to Moses but he also used the angel and the pillar of fire and pillar of cloud to direct them. We need to let God be God when it comes to divine direction. He can use a donkey, His Word, inward witness or voice, the Holy Spirit, prophecy, a Pastor, a Prophet, a friend or even a foe, a counselor, a preacher, Teacher, circumstances, dreams, word of knowledge, word of wisdom etc to speak to us. We just need to be sensitive in the spirit. We must not insist on the way He should speak to us. Also the fact that god had used a particular method to speak to us in times past does not mean he will continue to use that method.

Guidance is not permanent.
Moses had to depend on Him daily, moment by moment. He had to touch base with God continuously as He faced uncertainties. There will always be the need to go back to God for further instructions after hearing from Him once. God will not shows us everything at once. He shows us one mile at a time and when we have walked that mile, He expects us to come to Him for the next mile and so on and so forth.
And so having led the children of Israel, following God’s leading with the angel and the pillar of cloud and fire they came to the Red Sea. God did not tell them they would come to a Red Sea. But He led them to the Red Sea.

Use Your Faith v15
God expects us to use our faith against obstacles that appear to negate His Word and will for us. This was why when Moses cried out to Him because of the imminent violence and rebellion from the Israelites, He asked Him, “Why are you crying out to Me? Tell the people to get moving! In other words, “I have given you power and authority. Use it. Don’t cry out to Me! Use the Word, use the blood, use the Name above every other name. Cast not away your confidence. Without faith it is impossible to please Me. If I be for you, who can be against you? You are more than a conqueror through Christ.” Luke 10:19, Rom8:28-39, Heb11:6, -10:35

God wants to have a resounding victory over the enemy in our lives. This was why He hardened Pharaoh’s heart and led them to the Red Sea. There is always a purpose, soundness, a great goodness, lurking in God’s seeming ‘madness’. We can see from the result that followed. Ex14:21-31

As God leads you into the Promised Land, He will lead Your Enemies into their death trap.
The blood trap awaits Your enemies who pursue you. God will always outsmart your adversaries who are also His adversaries. Your miracle will be your enemies’ manacle. The vehicle of your victory will be their grave. This was why we were told that had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. They thought they got them hemmed in, trapped at the Red Sea but little did they know they were running in to a trap God had set for them. The cross looked like weakness but through it the power of God was demonstrated, when He raised Jesus from the dead on the third day. Ex14:21-31

You and I have a Promised Land that God wants to lead us into. Our enemies from without and within would rebel and oppose the move and journey. But we have the Holy Spirit who is our standby, intercessor and guide Jesus told us that He would send the Comfort (another Divine Person like Him) and when He is come, He would guide us into all truth. (John16:13) As many as are led of the Spirit they are the children of God. (Rom8:14)


Let us pray:
Guide me, O Lord, as I sojourn to my Promised Land. Help me identify the enemies within me and acknowledge them for you to help me deal with them. I yield my whole being into Your hand, mighty God, casting down every imagination that is contrary to your revealed will for me. Help me, Lord, to overcome the war between my spirit and my flesh, the world and the devil.
Show me the way to go, not my will but your will be done. May I hear and recognize your voice, my Shepherd, and not follow the voice of my flesh or that of a stranger.
Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your Holy Spirit Who lives in me and Who has come to guide me into all truth. Anoint my ears to hear you crystal clear, Comforter, Teacher and Guide. May I hear a voice saying to me, ”This is the way, walk in it.” I will allow You to be God this day. Speak to me however You choose and grant me the sensitivity to know, that I know, that I know, that it is You.
Guide me with Your eyes. Guide me with Your word. Guide me by Your Spirit. I choose to go your path and do your will- Your perfect will and not you permissive will; so help me God;in Jesus name, Amen.
