On March 1, 1994 a battle ended in my life that had been hard fought for 14 years. Since I was 6 months old I had been diagnosed with sickle cell disease and there was so much pain added to those years. God has a plan for our lives even when there seems no possible or logical way that light can reach us. THe doctors say that I reached the point of a bone marrow transplant for sickle cell disease because there were no other options available medically. I was given a death date which is a date past which one is not expected to live and it was not past the age of 20. I am now 26 soon to be 27, sickle cell disease free and giving glory to my Creator and my Healer. Even in the decision to be made for the bone marrow transplant to go forth there were no certainties offered by the medical staff. The doctor came from Baltimore, Maryland to perform a treatment that afore had only been done in the lives of cancer patients. They offered me the opportunity to know that there was only a 50 percent chance of living. I remember the night that Jesus Christ HImself came int omy hospital room and stood in the corner under the tv and told me that I would not die. He told me that I would live. When I told the good news my stepfather was in the room, but he went to call the nurse because he thought I was delirious. My room filled quickly with doctors trying to calm me down. I went through chemotherapy and lost all my immune system so I became unable to fight off any infection. I was sick a lot even taking the chemotherapy. It seems so unreal, so distant, now to look back at where God has brought me from and I can daily proclaim that sickle cell is a defeated enemy because the power of God settled on me. I now live with my wife Pastor Dorcas T. Saunders and I myself am also a co pastor of a ministry dedicated to bringing sunshine into the lives of others. God has a plan for our lives.
