Scripture Reading: Galatians 1:6-9

Some time ago, eight people from Japan came into contact with a man claiming to have several one million dollar bills from America. From what they were told, these bills, supposedly printed around 1928, were extremely rare and that, if they gathered their money together to buy several of them, they could expect a huge investment return in no time.

Well, to make a long story short, these people forked over around $1.3 million U.S. dollars worth of yen to this man, only to have him suddenly disappear before they could receive anything. And the saddest part about it was that the million-dollar bill didn’t even exist around the time the man claimed it was printed!

In the Book of Galatians, a group of false teachers infiltrated the churches of Galatia and began spreading false doctrine throughout them. From this, Paul spends his time rebuking these false teachings and reminding the believers there about the truth as he encourages them not to be led astray. So important was emphasizing the truth to Paul, especially about the gospel, that he even mentions that if anyone, even an angel, preached any other gospel than the one already given to them, let that person be accursed!

Throughout this world today, there are many bits of “wisdom” that may sound good, even to the point where buying into them makes sense. In fact, some ideas may sound or even label themselves as “Christian” to draw a crowd. But the truth is, just as there are scams in the financial world, there are probably even more in the spiritual world than anyone could realize.

As Christians, we are not defenseless against these traps. We have the Word of God to lead and guide us—to be that lamp onto our feet and that light unto our path as King David mentioned in his Psalm.

Just imagine, how much trouble could have been saved, if only those eight people took just a few minutes to do research. Now just imagine how much trouble we could save if we took just a few minutes each day to read the Bible and meditate on it. Because, ultimately, the wisdom of God’s Word is worth far more than any one million dollar bill.

Bottom Line: God’s Word is the ultimate spiritual scam buster.
