I love to write on the topic of God’s grace because His grace changes lives. You may need a change in your life because you have been waiting for God to heal you of a physical illness. The good news is that miracles of provision, protection, healing, deliverance, etc., happen when people know about God’s saving grace. I have been a Christian for many years but it was only in the last five years that I began to better understand what grace is. I want to share with you a couple of definitions of God’s grace to encourage you to believe in God to heal you.

God’s grace is entirely about His goodness to us and entirely independent of our obedience, works and love for Him. Grace is free and it cannot be earned and our part is simply to receive it with thanksgiving.

When I really thought about these definitions I realised that grace is very powerful. God’s grace has never been conditional upon our good works or right living. The greatest gift of God’s grace to us is Christ (Eph 4:7) and even at that point of receiving the Lord Jesus into our lives we did nothing to deserve Him. Grace comes freely and it cannot be earned.

Sometimes I hear Christians pray for the sick in this way, “Lord, please heal this sister because she is so precious to us, she has been such an active member in our women’s ministry. We ask that your healing hand be upon her so that she will recover quickly and return to the ministry to serve you again. We know that many lives will be touched by her love and testimony.”

For years I prayed prayers like this for others and for myself. I did not know that when God heals it is because of the cross. I did not know that we do not have to convince God why someone needs healing because when God performs healing He does not ask anything in return. Jesus said in the gospel of John that whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. This is why when we look at the miracles which Jesus performed, we know that God does not ask anything in return when He heals because Jesus often told the person to go his way after He heals him.

God wants you to know He is more than willing to heal. Some Christians get discouraged when they start to look to themselves. They think that they have not repented from their sins and so God has not healed them. You must not think that your sins can prevent you from receiving God’s healing because the bible tells us that sin cannot get in the way of God’s saving grace. If it did, how could He provide the answer of the cross?

You may have been discouraged by some well meaning Christian friends who tell you that it may not be God’s will to heal everyone. We have heard some Christians say that God builds our character to persevere through hardship. When we study the Bible carefully, we will realise that it only talks about sufferings in terms of persecution and never anything else in the new covenant. It is not God’s will that we should suffer in illness. Personally, it does not make sense to me that my Father will withhold healing from me and leave me in pain. Even a doctor will do what he can so that I may recover.

In the first compound name which God introduced Himself, He said that He is Jehovah Rapha (Exodus 15:26). In Hebrew this means “I am the Lord your family doctor.” I received the Lord’s healing for poor vision in Mar 2005 and it meant a lot to me to know that we have a God who is faithful to His word (Isaiah 53:4-5). Matthew 18:17 confirms that Jesus took our infirmities and carried our diseases on the cross. If you believe in what Jesus has done for you at the cross then healing is yours (Psalms 103:3). Judicially, God heals you because Jesus paid for your sins and the healing with His precious blood (Mark 2:9). For such a long time in America, we know of God as El Shaddai which means He is a God who is almighty and we need to know that Jehovah means He is a God who is willing.

Jesus suffered so much at the cross for your sake so that you need not suffer in your illness today. You can honour Him by believing that He has bought your healing. When you believe, you will receive (Mark 5:34).
