Have You Ever Wondered?

Have you ever wondered who you really are? Where you came from? Why you’re here? Where you’re going? Whether your life has any deeper meaning beyond your immediate awareness? How this world on which you live, and the vast universe of stars and planets, came about? Did all of this just “happen to happen” without any intelligent reason, purpose or cause? Or is there some explanation that makes more sense?

Let’s think it through, beginning at the beginning. First, isn’t it obvious that nothing exists without a cause? Have you ever seen a building, a car, ship, airplane, clock – or anything else – that just happened to spring into existence without any intelligent maker?

Obviously nothing in our whole realm of observation and experience exists without a cause – and that cause must be greater than what it produces. Birds who build nests are more intelligent than the nest they build. Men who build computers, cars and skyscrapers are greater in power and intelligence than what they produce.

Now think about yourself. You have intellect, emotion, will and conscience, which means you are a person. Is it conceivable that you, a person, somehow happened to come into existence without any cause? Of course not! Well then, who caused you? Your parents? Then who caused them – and their parents, and theirs and theirs?

You see, the chain of human life had to have a beginning. There had to be an original cause. And that cause had to be greater than you, greater than your parents, greater than the entire human race.

Because you are basically a person, whoever caused you to come into existence had to be a person greater than you. Flowers, trees, lakes and mountains are beautiful – and whoever created them had to be more beautiful than they. This earth, the uncountable trillions of stars in the vast borderless universe, and all of life, had to be created and caused by an incredibly powerful and intelligent Being whom we call “God.” Albert Einstein, "the Scientist of the Millennium," was forced by his observations to admit the existence of a great intelligent power behind the universe.

To assume that all existing things simply “happened to happen” through blind unintelligent chance and some kind of dumb evolutionary process overseen by nobody, defies all reason and reality. Let’s face it, uncaused existences are foreign to our observation and experience – and entirely alien to our intuition. That's a no-brainer!

God's existence is attested by the creation just as the existence of a clockmaker is attested by a clock. Although you never met the clockmaker personally, and would have no way to prove his existence in a scientific laboratory, you are certain beyond any doubt that the clockmaker existed as a real, intelligent person greater than the clock.

True science doesn’t deny, but rather establishes, the existence of God. Science would be impossible without a universe in which intelligent order exists. Man has not created the built-in order and design of material substances, of molecular structures, of electronic processes and biological life; he has merely discovered them. Science is a process of discovering the secrets of the universe – and the whole process relies on the existence of original intelligent design.

Too often men have misused science, which both requires and declares the existence of God, to deny it. That’s something like a clock owner denying that the clock had a maker! The fool says in his heart, “There is no God” (Psalm 14:1). No blindness is so total as that which substitutes blind chance and accidental processes for the Creator.

We have no reasonable alternative but to conclude, as most of the human race in all cultures has, that God the Creator exists. Okay, where do we go from here? Since God exists, what is our relationship to Him as we live out our short lives on Planet Earth? Have you ever wondered? Doesn’t it seem reasonable that the God who created us would care for us, and would offer some guidance for us as we pick our way along the rocky pathway of this brief life?

So where are we to find our guidance from God? Should we look to “religion” for it? After all, it’s religion that talks about God, isn’t it? Sure – but there are scores of different religions advocating hundreds and thousands of differing beliefs, rituals, customs and practices. In the name of “religion” bloody wars, brutal inquisitions, cruel atrocities, witch burnings, Klan raids and heartless mass murders have been perpetrated against millions of decent people. To most of us, “religion” is a confusing mess! It gets us nowhere in our quest for direction from the Creator God. So let’s dump “religion” into the trash pit where it belongs, and look for a more reliable source of truth from God.

In our quest for truth we must realize that a claim of truthfulness is not really convincing, for the worst "religious" charlatans of history have made that claim! We must look for a source that not only claims to tell the truth, but personifies, embodies and demonstrates it as well. As we run a “computer scan” through all of history, entering “ultimate truth” as our key words, we will find but a single person who claimed to tell the truth, claimed to be the truth, and proved His claims by actual widely-witnessed and verified demonstrations of His Deity.

By now you have probably guessed that such a person is the one from whose birth all time is dated – the one who attested His Deity by performing miracles that only God could perform, and who conquered death and the tomb in the single greatest validating act of all history – His widely witnessed resurrection from the realm of death.

Because He rose from the dead, His Deity is demonstrated and his message is validated as true, reliable and worthy of our eternal trust. The reason why our “computer scan” of history eliminated all of the self-proclaimed seers, prophets, philosophers, gurus and founders of “religions” is that their bones are still in some earthly tomb.

Jesus Christ never claimed to found a “religion.” The essence of His message is embodied in John 3:16: “God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” Eternal life is for people who "believe in Him" as the Savior who, in His death on that cruel Roman cross of execution, assumed in His Holy Person the judgment that our own sin deserves (Romans 3:21-31).

This “everlasting life,” which is provided at infinite cost to Him, cannot be earned or merited by good works (Titus 3:5-7). It is bestowed free of charge as a merciful act of God’s infinite love and amazing grace (Ephesians 2:8-9).

He died for you and rose again so that you might live. His message of love and eternal life is true. You can enjoy the greatest prize of all – the free gift of everlasting life! Do not look to any “religion,” self-proclaimed "prophet," guru, priest, scientist, politician, philosopher or other human source for ultimate truth.

Jesus Christ is your loving, gracious Savior from sin – and He is all you need. “For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily, and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power” (Colossians 2:9-10). Trust in the Risen Savior, Jesus Christ, who loved you and died for you.

“Religion” confuses and perverts God’s perfect plan of redemption by adding its own legalistic requirements as conceived by human cult-leaders (1 John 4:1-3). Jesus Christ bestows life everlasting as a free gift of His loving, unmerited favor toward us (Romans 3:24; 8:32). “Religion” vainly seeks salvation through human works of merit – but Jesus Christ gives eternal salvation, which in turn produces good works of service for God and man.

“Religion” always invents its own body of human tradition which imposes man-made control systems over deceived people. Jesus Christ releases the shackles of human control systems, banishes hatred and hostility, and sets people free to serve God and their fellow man. “You shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free” (John 8:32).

Have you ever wondered who you are? You are a precious creation of God, who loves you infinitely. Have you wondered where you came from? Not from some uncaused and inexplicable accident of evolutionary chance, but from the creative hand of God. Have you wondered where you are going?

You're not going to some dark and hopeless vale of nothingness which some humanly devised “religions” imagine – but by simple faith in Christ, to the Heavenly Mansion (John 14:2) of eternal life, love and infinite joy that He has prepared for you (Revelation 21:1-5). He who created the entire universe (John 1:3) is the only one who can give you eternal life (John 1:4) – and it's yours free of any cost to you, when you simply receive Him by faith (John 1:12).

Place your complete personal trust in the Eternal, Divine Savior, Jesus Christ, and eternal life will be yours. He is "the Way, the Truth and the Life" (John 14:6). He is the one who loves you completely and who paid the price to redeem your precious soul. Through His death and resurrection He provided the judicial basis for your eternal destiny in the Heavenly Mansion that He has prepared for you (John 14:1-4).

“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). Through faith in Christ you can experience a more abundant life here on Planet Earth (John 10:10) – and you will enjoy everlasting life in the future (John 10:28).
