My Offering

As the offering plate came around
Head bowed and my eyes on the ground
My pockets holding nothing but lint
I have no money, not even a hint

I offer something instead of silver and gold
I add something that may seem a little bold
Though I have nothing of worldly value
I give my offering, my everything, to You

Lord, I know that all blessings come from you
All my wealth and all my health it is true
Though my account may seem empty and bare
I lift up my praise to You, O’ Lord, my soul I bare

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I feel led by the Lord to address this situation. I notice how uncomfortable I feel when I have no money to put in the offering plate when it comes around. It may be that I am short this pay or it may be that I didn’t get a chance to get to the bank. It is an awkward feeling to let the plate pass by without putting anything in it. Is it condemnation I feel? Do I feel like the other parishioners are watching me not put anything in the offering? It honestly does not matter in either case. Therefore there is no condemnation…sound familiar? The Lord gave me a revelation. It really does not matter how much you put in the offering plate if your heart is not there. I could put my entire paycheck in the offering plate, but God doesn’t want it if He doesn’t have all of me.

Remember when the offering plate comes around that God wants something more valuable that money. He wants your heart. Yes, the Lord can and will use any money that you put in the offering plate and if you have then you should give (blessings do come with giving). But give with the right heart; give your true offering to the Lord.

In Christ,
Christian
