Tell me, why is it, in our common vernacular, that the term "reality" seems always to connote evil rather than just how things are. Isn't the rose as real as the thorn? If you look just at the thorns (dark, drab, dreary, selfish, greedy, mean), you must surely get a jaundiced view of life--one that's unbalanced and untrue. Funny how people say, when something's down and dirty, "Well, that's reality." Oh, really. Then sunlight, love and laughter, good hearts, kindness and dreams aren't equally real? Sure they are. Reality is not all grime, grimness and grief. The rose is on the same stem as the thorn. One is as real as the other. And the rose is a lot more pleasant to contemplate. Take, for instance, the incomparable Rose of Sharon who wore a crown of thorns, both undeniably real, but the Rose more lovely and lasting than His crown of thorns. And generally speaking, most of us find the reality we seek, whether rose or thorn.
