Brothers-In-Arms

In military life one of the hardest things
Is parting with friends this kind of life brings
We may come together for only a little while
Standing side by side through tribulation and trial

Friendship grows between brothers-in-arms
Watching each others back in a world full of harms
Sometimes a few years together we are granted
To know each other, until the world is again slanted

See you around is what we always say
As one or both go on their separate way
Today our part on this stage is at an end
Tomorrow we will play our roles once again

In times of war our lives are solemnly sworn
While friendships and hearts are tested and torn
We promise to preserve and defend our way of life
As we fight in this world of trouble and strife

Even during the few times of momentary peace
Our time together is not given, but only a lease
Duty around the seas to aid in a country's relief
Our times together, regrettably, forever brief

Military friendships are unlike any other sort
Even though our time together is always short
Physical location does not limit our bond
Friends forever we will stay until all is gone

As we scatter once more upon the breeze
Fair Winds and Following Seas...



Brothers and Sisters,

As we have come once again to the time to reflect upon the great sacrifice of many of our young men and women, I thought I would share this poem.

I wrote this a few years back as I once again was getting ready to part with some friends I had made. It describes that our life usually happens in 2-5 year clips. People come and go, some to other commands, some to go back home, and some to meet the Lord.

In these troubling times it is easy to hold politics and ideals against the people who serve. I just want to give a reminder that most members of the service I met serve a higher ideal than the current political agenda. I joined and continue to serve out of love and duty.

I don't want to get on a soapbox, just want to say "God bless our service members, He knows they need all the prayers and love they can get."

So as you enjoy your barbeques and days at the beach or whatever it is you do on Memorial Day weekend. Please take a moment to pray for those who made the ultimate sacrifice (and who are making the ultimate sacrifice) that we may enjoy our long weekend in the manner we choose (i.e. our way of life). Thank you and may God bless you all.
