Today I feel like making a statement to clarify in a complex world my own thinking, as well as to take a stand for what I think is a most vital issue. After September 11th, we tended to try to meld together, smoothing rough edges of disagreement in order to present a united front before a common enemy. And that was right and good. But there are some things that must not be tampered with and watered down in order to make everybody feel good--no matter the circumstances. Just as there exist both good and evil in the world, so truth and error are likewise present--separate and distinct.

Christianity is not just one of the world religions all with equal validity and footing. If Scripture is true, then Christ is the Son of God who died on the cross in order to redeem us from our sins and make us His children. Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by me." If that is true, then Buddha and Mohammed are not His equals. We do no one a favor by letting them comfortably believe a lie.

I am a Christian. If you are not a Christian and do not accept Christ as the Son of God, I will still treat you kindly and pray for your welfare. I will remember when I look at you that God loved you and sent His Son to die for you. I'll share with you to meet your needs for food, clothing and shelter. I will never knowingly harm you or yours. But I will not, must not, compromise my faith in order to make you feel good about yours. Christ is singular--the Savior of the world sent by a loving Father to redeem a world full of fallen people. There is no other name given under heaven through which we can be saved and spend eternity with God, His holy angels and the saints of all ages. That is the only truth that I would willingly give my life to defend. And I long to share that truth in love with all I meet as long as life lasts.

But God in His great wisdom and grace gave us the gift of free will, and each must make a choice whether to accept His Son or reject Him. And I respect your right to make your own decision no matter what it is. May God bless you.
