Luke 1: 1-4; 1Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled[a] among us, 2just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. 3Therefore, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, it seemed good also to me to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. , -NIV

Now that I have started doing this online and daily, as opposed to only weekly and only for a few friends, I have learned a few things.


First of all writing every day is harder than writing every week. Many times when I have gone to seminars or other Christian conferences they talk about doing the fundamentals and one of them is always journaling. I had thought that was like a diary and so I had shied away from it. It was; too girlie, too impersonal, and just not my style. Also I had a hard enough time reading and thinking on the word an hour or so each day not to mention prayer time and ministry who had the time to actually write something in a journal that no one would ever read anyway. In Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life By Donald S. Whitney, one of the first books I read as a young Christian and one that I still read at least once a year, it is considered one of the most important Disciplines. But I had been ignoring if for over nine years now. I think I begin to understand now. As we discipline ourselves for various matters, even those that have nothing to do with our present circumstances, God is able to work in us to free us from the destructive habits we are already into. The story of the cast out demon who roams about and then comes back home to roost with seven new demons is just one example of reasons why we need to fill our lives with Gods Discipline.


Without the “necessity” of writing every day I do not think the work that God is doing in other parts of my life would be happening. Journaling is Biblically inspired -the entire book of Acts was basically Luke’s Journal of what happened to the early Christians- and is something everybody should look into adding to their daily walk with God.
