Larry Lilly's Letter Thursday May 25, 2006

We all know it is too early to properly evaluate the impact either negative or positive of the DaVinci Code. But some things are becoming quite clear and while they are good to know, these truths are near sickening.

In an Op/Ed piece in the New York Post, Arnold Ahlert on May 23rd commented on the media and the DaVinci Code. His statements were intriguing else I would not be writing about them.

I will not rehash the blasphemous plot of the film, but note what Arnold wrote in part:

“Critics have organized protests and written articles railing against it. Yet every media outlet has publicized or promoted the movie, regardless of Christian sensitivities.

Properties destroyed by protesters: Zero. People killed: Zero.

Compare that to the weeks of death and destruction after a Danish newspaper published 12 satirical cartoons of the Prophet Mohammad - which most Western media never published, ostensibly out of "respect for religious sensitivities."

Hollywood hopes "The Da Vinci Code" will be a blockbuster. For revealing the bankruptcy of multiculturalism and the hypocrisy of the mainstream media, it already is.”

For the sake of argument, I seldom defend the media, could it be that the media assumes the civility of Christians? Do they in their heart of hearts (Media with a heart)? suspect that Christians as a whole are actually impervious to the childish rants of Muslims and while we write and pray and perhaps say a few nasty things, we do understand the long term weapons necessary to lasting victory in things pertaining to clashing world views.

Burning city blocks and flying airliners into buildings, strapping back pack bombs onto the backs of young mothers in attempts to prove beyond question the insanity of ideas do not win the hearts and minds of thinking people. Christ and the ideals of true Christianity have prevailed over the millennia not due to blood shed, though through ignorance there has been some, but ideas prevail because they are superior. The superiority of ideas requires testing over time, usually over long periods of the stuff of life.

While pseudo intellectuals, mouth criticisms of our way of life, a long lingering look at the preponderance of empirical evidence tips the scale heavily in favor of what has regressed from being called Christendom to Western Civilization.

Please understand I do not believe the above rant is the reason the media have been the reverse of their common sense in not running the Muslim cartoons but bashing Jesus Christ with a near feeding frenzy. We Christians need to be re-reading about the martyrs, for civilization is on the verge of a bath in the blood of the followers of the Lamb. Again.
