You Took My Place

I cannot imagine what it was like in Gethsemane.
You cried tears of blood knowing the time was near.
Yet You prayed for me that I’ll be kept in amazing grace,
You must love me, You must love me.

The scourging awaited You and the mocking too.
Yet willingly You gave Your life by taking the cup of suffering.
You are the great ‘I am’ who spoke and the soldiers fell at once.
It wasn’t really them I know who nailed You to the cross.

Bruised for my transgressions, crushed for my iniquities,
Scarred beyond recognition, my Jesus, my Jesus.
Precious blood was poured for me,
It washed right down to reach me.
At the foot of the cross I worship at Your feet,
What was it like at Calvary?

I believe You died to sin and I died with You.
I believe You rose again and I rose with You.
Redeeming power, resurrection power,
The power of Your gift of righteousness lives in me.

I should have been in Gethsemane but You were all alone.
I should have taken the punishment but I am blessed in You.
I nailed You to the cross my Saviour Redeemer,
God’s greatest sacrifice to me!

It is all because of You I am perfect in God’s sight,
And under Your wings I reside.
You tell me I am begotten and never forgotten,
A covenant child purchased by Your blood.
What peace fills my soul, what praise can I bestow?
Oh Jesus how I love you so!
