"Square Pegs in Round Holes"

Something was wrong.
I couldn’t make it fit.
I had tried for so long
And I was ready to quit.
Then it hit me.
I had pursued the wrong goals.
I had been cramming big square pegs into delicate round holes.

Why hadn’t I seen
That I was missing the mark?
How long had I been
Fumbling in the dark?
Your plan for me
Is much different from my own.
I had rejected your plan
And tried to go it alone.

But try as I might
I just couldn’t do it.
I cried, I screamed,
I pitched an angry fit.
But that would solve nothing
Unless I looked to your face.
So I grudgingly got on my knees
And asked for your grace.

I handed you my square pegs
You exchanged them for round.
Then everything fit!
A purpose had been found!

Father forgive me for ignoring
Your perfect plan for me
But I am only human
And it’s hard for me to see.

Sometimes I think if I try hard enough
I can make the square pegs fit.
But if your plan is a round hole,
Then I must choose the right pegs for it.

I want to follow you
Even when I don’t understand.
Because I know you love me completely
And your love includes a plan.
So take away my square pegs
And trade them in for round.
Thank you for your mercy,
The lost has now been found!
