Emotions rage in a whirlwind of confusion
Ears pounding to the sound of blood pumping
A shiver travels up my spine to the back of my neck
Hair stands ridged and tense

My breath caught in my throat where a ball of fury forms
Nerves rage through me

Hands ball into fists
Nails dig into the palms of my hand
Knuckles white

Eyes burn into the sockets within my soul
Whites of my eyes form a trail of blood marked throughout

Hands cold and clammy
Like the heart that beats wildly within my chest

Memories infiltrate my mind
My minds thoughts take me hostage
How do I control it
Past haunts like an old acquaintance not welcome

I reach out for something to calm me down
Something real
Something

I pray for strength
I pray for peace
I pray to forget

Put on the façade
Plaster on a smile
Put on the show

On the outside

You see me tranquil
You see me laugh
You see me smile

Don’t look deeper
Don’t look within
