I Saw You

In some faraway place,
I saw you standing alone,
with your hands in your pockets
and your face set like stone.

You pick up a flower
and breathe its essence in.
Not what you expected,
so you try it again.

You pick and you choose them,
always hoping that you’ll find
just the right scented flower,
in the right place this time.

A breeze stirs around you
and softly kisses your skin.
It feels almost like promise,
so you try it again.

You pick up a flower
and breathe its essence in.
Not what you expected;
“Must I do this again?”

That breeze stirs around you,
stronger than ever before.
How you love the flowers,
but expect so much more.

Try following the breeze
when it stirs your heart again.
There's just no sweeter scent
than the love of a friend.

This is beautiful Joyce! I believe that we have all picked the Sweetest Friend that ever bloomed, the Rose of Sharon. Picking you also as a very beautiful and lovely friend, this Scripture came to mind!
2 Corin. 2:14-Now thanks be to God who always leads us in TRIUMPH in Christ, and through US diffuses THE FRAGANCE of HIS KNOWLEDGE IN EVERY PLACE. This is certainly true in your case! Love, Sharon

What a wonderful poem, the beauty of a friend could only be compared by the fragrance of a flower. What a superb talent you have, superb.

Oh, Joyce, you've unglued me...You so skillfully use the flower-picking imagery to bring home the God-given longing for companionship. My hubby and I were just talking about how each of us long for that special friend (of our own gender). It seems the deeper we go in God, the harder they are to find...And that just throws us all the more on Him.

Bless you for the gift of this lovely poem! A beautifully executed piece.

Joyce,
You paint a beautiful picture with your words. I really enjoyed reading this poem.
