Solomon said there is nothing new under the sun and he was right on target. Yet the media spews forth information each day as though even the oldest sins are brand new.

Just last week I read that the police in Germany are raiding brothels to arrest illegal prostitutes. What kind of world do we live in where you would use the word illegal?

In today's world a prostitute can be male or female, the common act being that of selling their body for financial gain.

What do you call a person who sells their soul for financial gain?

I think the biblical term is FOOL. For as sure as the sun makes its appearance in the East, at some time each person who sells either their body or their soul for gain, for security, for pleasure will hear the voice of God, much as did Adam in cool of the garden, saying, "Thou fool, this day or night, thy soul is required of thee."

Commenting on the propensity for the fallen progeny of Adam to not only sin, but to be creative in doing so, the Bard of Avon, William Shakespeare wrote:

"They commit the oldest sins in the newest kind of ways."

Two brothers are in our regional papers as being the most successful bank robbers in recent memory in the Mid-West. An old sin, but they had a few ideas for newer, more creative methods. The pastor and associates at a local church are under indictment for fraudulently obtaining over $100,000.00 in food stamps. And a mother attempting to sell her infant to get money to buy drugs.

The list goes on but I assume you have things to do, so I will get to the point.

Humans commit the oldest sins in the newest kind of ways, to be sure. Humans, all of us, Christian and otherwise, must face the facts, facts that are as old as time, the first man and family sinned. They did not get by. The last man and family will commit sins, perhaps with a new wrinkle; they will not get by with this action.

When we sin, rather than trying to hide the fact, the only sensible thing to do is to run to Jesus and admit the sin, agree with God that this sin is wrong, accept His forgiveness through the blood of Christ, do what you can to the people hurt by your actions, and get on with life, keeping in mind that the circle of injured parties is probably much larger than you at first thought.

The oldest sins may be committed in the newest ways, but repentance is still demonstrated in the oldest of ways; biblical.
