"So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step...." 1 Cor. 9:26 (LB)

Paul must have read The Purpose Driven Life, and in doing so, discovered his purpose, his reason for being here on earth. He knew it was all about pointing others to Jesus Christ. So he said, "I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step."

I don't think the word "relax" was in Paul's vocabulary. He didn't know the definition of the word "recreation." He was in a race. The pistol had gone off, the stopwatch was ticking, the finish line was ahead and he was running straight toward the tape as fast as his stubby little legs would carry him. No time to rest. No time to snooze. He had an assignment and that was to fulfill the purpose for which he had been placed on earth.

Now, my idea of a race is more along the lines of a fun-run. You can run, walk, jog, ride a bike, roller skate. It's not meant to cause pain. They have rules against breaking a sweat. You just kinda stroll along and fellowship with other fun-runners. Oh, there may be one or two who take it seriously and run hard but they are what you call, fanatics. Why work so hard when you can have so much fun?

Paul didn't sign up for a fun-run. Why waste the entry fee? His only regret in life was that they didn't have the triathlon in his day. He would have been the first iron man.

He ran straight to the goal with purpose in every step.... and he changed the world.

O God, may I, like Paul, be a man with purpose in every step, I pray. Amen
