So many times, we here people say, “what if God did not, or what if God said He is too busy right now,” but how many of us actually stop to think about that? What if? I have a friend of mine who often tease me when I start to say what if. She calls it the “What ifs’ by Dee Dee Smith.” But think about it, what if? The reason that this came into my spirit was because we see and hear so many excuses why we can’t do this or that. The other night, we went out witnessing, and mind you, it was a little chilly, but that was an excuse that was used not to go out witnessing. I am a mother of 3. I have been to football games in the rain, cold rain, I have been to track meets when it was a cold rain, I have been to soccer games, Christmas parades in the dead of winter, so how could I possibly justify not going out witnessing because it was a little chilly? How do we justify not giving God one day during the week to devote to Him, when He gives us 6 days to do what we apparently want to do? How do we justify taking the summer off from church because we are on vacation, or because school is out? How do we justify checking our watches during church service (unless you are on medication that has to be taken at a certain time), and complaining when the sermon is too long, yet you do not get upset when the game goes into overtime? When we hear what if God does not do this, we allow to go in one ear and out the other, but pretend like that word is a piece of steak that needs to be marinated before you cook it. What if……God says, I can not bless you today because the weather is not right? What if…….God says, I forgot to wake you up this morning because my alarm clock did not go off? What if…..God says, I am sorry, I did not know you needed me to be with the surgeon during your open heart surgery on today, I had plans? What if God says, since you rejected me, you rejected my Son, you rejected my Spirit….NOW I REJECT YOU!!!!!!!!!!! You are probably saying that God will not do that because He is Sovereign, because He is merciful, because of His grace, because He loves us, but what if……….mercy ran out? What if………..grace became justice? What if He stopped loving us………..because we turned our backs on Him? We have made our jobs, our money, our cars, our time, our families and friends more important to us than God the creator of all those things. But we never really think that the “what if” can happen. It is just speculation on our part, but what if Noah did not listen to God when God said to build the ark, what if Lot and his family stayed in Sodom and Gomorrah instead of leaving….what if Jesus decided that He would not die on the cross for our sins, because He knew that we would not appreciate it anyway. We say we are giving God our heart, but the only thing we are giving to God is empty promises, lies, an excuses. We say Lord, I will, but not now, or Lord, can you hurry it up. I read a story once about a young boy who went out witnessing in the rain, despite his dads’ protest, an in doing so, his smile kept a lady from committing suicide. We should be like that young boy, persistent in witnessing, persistent in living for God. The day that you decide to stay home from church because you are tired, or you do not want to go out to witness because it is too cold, will be the day that you will miss your blessing, it may be the day that Jesus comes back. How do we expect to be blessed, when we are not willing to be a blessing? We need to stop taking the “what ifs” lightly and start realizing just how serious it is when we do not do because it is God. The famous saying is, “God knows my heart, and so what is your heart saying to God at this moment?” What if God knows that you are not fooling Him, but only deceiving yourselves? We make excuses not to do that which would help others get to know Christ, but we rush and do that which can deter someone from coming to the Lord. We need to stop doing nothing and start doing something. We really need to stop and think when people began talking about the what ifs when it comes to God. What if God says I banish you from my face, because you have already banished Him from yours? Be blessed.
