One of my more troublesome battles over long years has been the battle for biblical common sense.

Let me explain; in my vast ignorance I have supposed that when writing it is acceptable to follow guidelines adhered to by biblical writers, writers who have their Holy Ghost dictated work contained in the canonical pages of Holy Writ. This sentence should give you an idea of where I am and have been from the day of conversion on the subject of the Bible.

So, when I get snide remarks from hopefully well meaning men and a few women I ascribe the snide remarks to their need for deliverance from said ignorance.

Quotes!

I get more mail about quotes, quotes which I use on a daily basis to make points and to quote Spurgeon, "He who doth not quote, shall not be quoted." Hence, my propensity to quote others often without regard to their position on other things, it's just that the quote being used fits the object of my article. This quoting is truly offensive to unlearned people.

I do not adhere to Marxist Doctrine, yet I used the famous quote of Marx, "Religion is the opium (Check it out he said, Opium) of the people." By that he meant that governments use religion to their own end as a means of controlling the masses. Get your head out of the sand and see the truth of his statement on this issue.

Jude, the stepbrother of our Lord did the same thing I do in his epistle, are you ready for this? Jude quoted two passages from the writings of books excluded from the canon due to vast heretical content. He evidently knew the quoted passages to be true. Jude 14-15 quotes Ist Enoch verbatim, "And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, 15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him."

Jude also quotes from The Assumption of Moses in verse 9: "Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee."

I often quote the Anglican, C.S. Lewis and usually get a few comments about this use of ole Clive. May I say Erasmus was a Roman Catholic, The body of the 1611 translators were Anglicans. Do I buy into Roman Catholicism or Anglicism? Nope. But I do quote the KJV and use it exclusively in my speaking and writing. Please remember God used a donkey to speak the truth. I know, I know, you think He is doing it again today.
