Short Dramas and Plays
Four friends talk at the coffee hour at church. Intended as a lead-in to a sermon or skit written by you! This is just a tickler to get others thinking. The full presentation of the message comes in your sermon or devotion.
Vaughn: I’m really excited. I just sent in my Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes entry. I’m pretty sure I’m going to win this year.
Estelle: That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard, Vaughn.
Leon: Aw, Estelle. Let the kid dream.
Estelle: But I don’t think its right to let him get his heart set on the impossible.
Julie: It’s not impossible, Estelle. Improbable, maybe, but not impossible.
Vaughn: Julie’s right. Somebody has to win, and this year it’s going to be me. I have my eye on a sweet little piece of property on the lake. It has great boat access. I already know which boat I’m buying, too.
Estelle: This is getting crazy. You can’t count on that prize money, Vaughn. You’re not going to win the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes!
Leon: Improbable odds do come through.
Julie: Improbable things do happen, to others. I mean surprising things do happen. But, in reality they don’t happen all that often. Name one time in your experience that the improbable happened to you, Leon.
Leon: Easter.
Estelle: Easter happens for everyone, Leon. How is that improbable?
Leon: How probable was it that God would send His Son into the world to rescue me? How probable was it that the Son of God would suffer and die for my sins so that I would get eternal life in heaven instead of the punishment I deserve in hell?
Julie: It is pretty amazing when you put it like that.
Vaughn: Wow. Great things do happen to people like us. Maybe I’ll send in that entry after all.
Estelle: But I thought you were sure you were going to win already. What do you mean “send it in”?
Vaughn: Get real, Estelle. Nobody ever wins those things.

Very cute. I would have went into a little more detail about what Jesus did on Easter. That part seemed a little hurried. Maybe you could have listed how improbable it was for a man who had so much done to him to be able to come back to life or something like that. Just a thought. Other than that little part, very nice skit.
Sincerely,
Dan Blankenship
