Listening to God

Communication is an important aspect of our lives. It is also an essential element in all relationship.

It comes in many forms – the spoken word, written word, body language and even acts of kindness.

The greatest form of communication comes through the Spirit of God living within every believer.

Just as a child must have training in order to communicate in a particular language, so we must be trained to hear the voice of God. It takes time, energy and effort but it is worth it.

The prophet Samuel learnt how to recognise and listen to God’s voice. (1 Samuel 3:1-19).

To hear God’s voice we need to have the Desire to hear His voice. We need to prepare ourselves by being Still and Quiet and Obey whatever He tells us.

God desire that we have a growing and intimate relationship with Him and this relationship develop through continuous prayer.

Prayer is the method by which we communicate with the Lord both in speaking to and hearing from Him. This helps deepen our relationship with Him.

We can then walk in God’s perfect wisdom and allow Him to direct our lives. When we walk in God’s wisdom, He will allow us to see things from His perspective and then respond according to His Word.

He can then guide us into decisions that represent His best for us.

Remember that He has promised in His word that when we call on Him, He will answer and show us great and unsearchable things that we do not know. (Jeremiah 33:3).
