"Test everything. Hold on to the good. Avoid every kind of evil." -- I Thessalonians 5:21-22 (NIV)

Have you ever heard the expression, "You have to take the good with the bad?" Why can't we just have the good? Why can't we just filter out the bad?

There are bad things in this world that we don't ever want to tangle with. There are bad things for our bodies. There are bad things for our minds. And there are bad things for our spirits.

What could possibly be bad for our spirit? Well there are many things. One thing that I think is bad is too much isolation. One reason is that God wants us to be with other people and share the joy of His good news. Isolation leads to hate and God does not want us to hate.

Another thing bad for the spirit is not reading and contemplating ideas. Being exposed to new ideas is good for our spirits. Sometimes these ideas test our faith, but true eventually wins.

Many people go through the motions of spirituality. These people have never been tested and have no close personal relationships with Jesus. I can tell you that every debate moves me closer to God.

So there is a reason to take the bad with the good. Taking the bad with the good will help to strengthen your faith. Will help you to overcome all obstacles.

Take the good and use it; avoid the bad and use it. If your faith is strong; you'll be alright.
