When it comes to controversy, I enjoy one as much as the next person. If you, like me, enjoy a good old fashion wrangling, we are living in a controversy bonanza.

The problem as I see it is simply that there are so many controversies it is hard to know which one to give your attention to first. Just as soon as I zero in on one delicious dispute, I discover another one that seems more appetizing. Today, controversies are like a French pastry tray. No matter which one you pick, you know it is going to be delicious.

Controversies come in all sizes and flavors. There are political controversies, community controversies, social controversies and, my favorite of all, religious controversies. I will let go of no squabble before I have drained every delicious drop of juice from it.

Just when I thought I have heard everything there is to hear I end up hearing something I've never heard before.

During the recent Christmas season, some made quite a stir about using the word "Christmas.” It seems, so the squabble went, that the word offended non-Christians. Although, and here is the hypocrisy of it all, the whole world wanted to celebrate the Christmas season.

Nobody complained about his or her Christmas bonus, about having Christmas Day off or sitting down to a very nice Christmas dinner with the family. In addition, Christmas parties were as popular as ever. As far as I could tell, nobody refused his or her Christmas present.

As controversies go, this I thought was a rather weak and silly tirade. At the time, I believed nothing could really top this Christmas controversy. Boy was I wrong!

At first, when hearing of this new controversy, I thought someone was just giving a spoof and making fun of silly controversies. Imagine my surprise when I discovered some considered this new controversy serious. Many people are now jumping on this new controversy bandwagon. Looking into it further, I've noticed it is the same old bandleader.

This controversy, boiled down to its simplest terms is this: We cannot display the Easter bunny or Easter egg in stores, in schools, or on government property because it might offend the non-Christian.

As I say, I thought someone was just a rabbit’s foot. However, I was to discover, a controversy is raging around the little furry Easter bunny and the colorful Easter egg. I think somebody’s brain is scrambled.

For some strange reason, there are people in our country who think the Easter bunny along with the Easter egg originated with Christianity and represent Christian symbols. Wait until these sophisticated egghead philosophers discover that non-Christians originated the Easter bunny and the Easter egg. In fact, the word Easter is technically not even a Christian word and has its roots in paganism.

Don't let this little secret out, but most Christians are not that happy with associating the Easter bunny and the Easter egg with the resurrection of Jesus Christ. I say keep it a secret because if certain people in our country found out this basic truth we will begin seeing Easter bunnies and Easter eggs all over the place throughout the entire year. I don't know about you, but I can only take so much of that furry little animal and his egg.

The people who associate the bunny and the egg with the resurrection of Jesus Christ are the same ones who came up with the idea that man evolved from monkey. I grant you that for the most part, men and women have made pesky little monkeys out of themselves, but out of deep respect for the monkey kingdom, I refuse to believe monkeys are responsible for the condition of men and women today. People, however, like to blame someone on their problems and the lowly monkey can’t fight back.

If monkeys could talk, they certainly would tell us how ashamed they are that we have blamed them for their ancestry. With all the research gone into this subject, not one researcher has come up with the slightest notion that any monkey anywhere systematically aborts their babies. In fact, most monkeys try to have as many little monkeys as they possibly can.

The same people who came up with this deranged idea have brought us the notion that rabbits lay eggs. I highly suspect the person who propagates this silly notion.

What I want to know is simply this, which came first the rabbit or the egg?

Did someone look at an egg in the springtime and said, "Aha, look what the rabbit did."

It seems to me that our schools are lacking in certain areas of fundamental education for our young people. This being one of them. Rabbits, I say most emphatically, do not lay eggs in the springtime or any other time in the year for that matter. Maybe in some chemically induced dream, but not in reality.

I have not checked on it personally, but I think the chicken delegation is in a foul mood over this misrepresentation of facts.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the central message of the gospel. The apostle Paul sounded a clear note on this. “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:” 1 Corinthians 15:3 - 4 (KJV).
