I've been doing a lot of thinking recently. Womanhood . . . What is it? How is it different from what our culture claims? This world has so distorted God's intentions in what a woman should be. "She should be strong." "She should be independent." "She should be able to do anything a man is doing."

I get so frustrated seeing this picture then comparing it to polar opposites in Scripture. I was looking in Proverbs and comparing the characteristics of the adultress to that of the virtuous woman.

Here's what I found.
Adultress
-dresses to impress (to draw attention)
-seductive body language (freely flirts)
-loud
-boisterous (center of attention)
-defiant (always "right" - won't admit failure)
-feet never stay at home (lack of a teachable spirit)
-lurking (searching for a man/ purpose - desperate)
-aggressive (pursuer in relationships)
-smooth tongue
-makes eyes
-bitter
-sharp
-acts impulsively
-ignorant of her ways

Virtuous Woman
-considerate
-servant
-quality of perserverence
-doesn't show favoritism
-manages money well
-takes care of her body in a way that's pleasing to the Lord
-good time management
-creative
-giving (generously)
-a woman of dignity and controlled strength
-wise
-faithful
-not lazy, but diligent
-FEARS THE LORD

So many women today are told that they should fear nothing - the truth is the woman that FEARS the Lord is to be praised. Not fears him as in is scared of Him, but fears Him in holy reverence.

I still have so much learning to do when it comes to being a woman of God and a woman of virtue. What do we see most in this culture - if these were the only two models we had of womanhood, it's pretty clear that the majority of women would fall into the adultress category.

According to Scripture, who are you?

What are you going to do about it?

Hannah, That was a very good thought. So many in teh world really do fall in teh adulterous side. I'm afraid I have a slight tendancy of that myself when I do not carefully keep myself in check. Thank you for sharing this with the rest of us! May we continue being a woman of God, a VIRTUOUS woman!
