The most important time of one’s life is now!

Everyday we are bombarded with a million thoughts, hundreds of decisions and a host of personal problems to deal with. For most of us everyday people, who have a job to contend with accompanied with a personal relationships, one can only imagine how confusing and frustrating life can become.

A few nights ago while I was attending my college psychology class, the discussion of A.I.D.S came up. Well for the most part just about everyone’s input was centered around how devastating A.I.D.S is on the human body, the signs that folks have if they are H.I.V positive, and a host of other A.I.D.S related dilemmas.

While sitting there observing and listening quite attentively, I could not help but imagine how everyone looked at this disease as a death sentence. I was even taken further in thought, and wondered about the many conversations I have heard about other diseases such as: diabetes, heart disease, lupus and so on. Also not just the diseases that people look at as a death sentence, but even with their personal relationships, I have observed that when folks hit rock bottom in their relationships somehow they feel as if it is the end of the world and life has no hope for them.

The point I am trying to make here is that people spend, if not most their entire lives worrying about what could happen, before it even happens, and if it ever does happen, they spend the balance of their lives with the negative thoughts of what this thing will do to them.

In the book ‘Pearls of wisdom’ Tony Curtis said, “The most important time of one’s life is now-right now” Mr. Curtis could not have been more correct, and I must say I totally agree with him. Very few people understand this seemingly insignificant statement, because they are consumed so much by everyday problems, that demand for the most part the relentless thought of what could happen, and the idea of what could happen is usually negative.

I am not advocating that you should not plan, consider or prepare for tomorrow, nor am I saying you should not think of tomorrow altogether, however, what I am saying is that in order to extract joy out of life and live a fulfilled life one must maximize and exhaust the time that you are actually experiencing right this very moment, because you are not guaranteed tomorrow and yesterday has already passed. So it stands to reason that now is the time to do whatever it is that you want to do or have been planning to do.

Ok! So you don’t have the money you need to start that business, you’re not married, or your job is not paying you enough for you to take that dream vacation or you recently discovered your partner is cheating. Life does not end there; do not allow these things to become a stumbling block in your life. If you realistically look at it anything that has any value would be costly whether it be by means of monetary value or just stress value, some how there is some value attached to it. That can be in the form of love, a home a job whatever.

Life is now! You have already done what you did yesterday, and your thoughts for tomorrow will not stop what will reasonably happen tomorrow, and that means whether you live to even be apart of tomorrow or not, what is going to happen will indeed happen. So it brings us right back to the most obvious conclusion and that is we only have right now.

Diseases, bad relationships, family problems whatever, again I reiterate this is not the end. You are still alive and the bible makes it clear that wherever there is life there is indeed hope for any situation no matter how sever it may appear. This may sound strange but life is waiting for you to begin living it. Every morning you awake you are extended the opportunity to enjoy the time of life that is offered to you.

Some folks got the news last week or even today that some love one has died, or they themselves have been diagnosed with some terminal disease, and sad to say it is normally this time that we begin to reflect back, and wish we took time and enjoy the beach more, told your husband/wife significant other you love them, traveled more etc. there are so many things that we have accumulated over our life time that we rarely use or even enjoy. Question, When was the last time you actually walked at the back of you yard or even sat at the back of your yard and enjoyed the day? Right now you are probably thinking in your minds about the thing that you do on an everyday basis that have or is presently preventing this from happening. So this is only evidence that your subconscious has been programmed to prevent you from just the simple pleasures of life.

Friends I don’t care what your situation may be, get up and will yourself to enjoy the gift of life God has given you, even if it is as simple as taking a different route to work. Break that normal slave pattern that has bound you for years, and deprive you of your gift of life. All you have is now- right Now!!!!!! You are probably home reading this article or maybe you are at school or work, and you are consumed about what will happen tomorrow-well, I hate to be harsh but forget about tomorrow and begin to live now. When you leave work, school, or wherever you are right now, rather than doing the “norm” that you do everyday, why don’t you go to the park, walk the beach, make friends with someone that is different from you or better yet take a ride in the ghetto and watch and see that there are not only people that has it worst than you but are slaves to what they do on a daily basis even though it brings no beneficial profit to them.

So he/she left you and you are perplexed in sorry and depression, you can’t eat, and whatever you do eat has no taste, your loosing weight, and focus at this point in your life has eluded you for the most part. Well do yourself the biggest favor and say to yourself all I have is now!! And I refuse to allow anybody to deprive me of the gift of life, God has given me. Do something different like meeting other people, become apart of an organization or anything that allows you to experience and achieve the fullness of living life right- now. There are people that are held hostage against their will or are in prison, that only wish they had the physical freedom that you have. You have to purpose in your heart to break that slave mentality that tries to convince you, that things can’t be better and that you are suppose to be this way. Hell no! It does not have to be that way, you have free will, and you can choose whatever it is you want. The decision to be happy and enjoy right-now is resting in your mind waiting to be exercised, but it has been clouded for so long, in the form of negativity and a lack of self confidence.

Maybe you have promised yourself you want to loose weight this year, or you promised to ditch some bad habits. Well it is almost the month of March and the things you wanted to do are still floating around in your head. It could be you’re wondering what people will think of you, and how you would look to others if you were to change a certain pattern, well I say forget the thoughts and opinions of others. They have this life to live and make an attempt to enjoy right-now! Just like you. Get up right now and do what it is that you have always wanted to do, and in doing what it is you wanted to do you will be not only building self confidence, but making that hope of life even more visible, but I can assure you it won’t happen by it just floating around in your head. You must make the transitional step from fantasy to reality, and only you can do that.

There are many people who have left this world sad to say, young and old who have never truly enjoyed their time here. Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble (Job 14:1). So according to the bible you are assured or guaranteed much trouble in your short life, therefore why not exploit the joy of enjoying what you have and are sure of right now? I had a brother that died a number of years ago and I can recall many conversations that we had and I told him I loved him, and I showed it in my actions and looking back at it now I enjoyed the moments I had at that particular time with him. What I am trying to say is the most important time I ever had with my brother was when I showed and communicated love, and over looked any differences we might have had at that time, I maximized my right- now and because of that I have nothing to regret, or wish I should have done. Our time together was short, but because I made that right now the most important time, the time spent was short, but complete.

Finally, we can agree that yesterday is done, and tomorrow we are not sure of because we were not promised tomorrow, so clearly we can only add to or take away from what is happening now. That also means that right now is the most important time in our lives and armed with this fact we aught to maximize and exhaust what we have now, and put aside all that is negative with the sole purpose of seeking that which is positive , because with our will to do what we want to do coupled with a positive outlook on life, the possibilities of exploring the joys of right-now are endless. The bible says in (Matthew. 6:34) “Give no thought for tomorrow: for tomorrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient is the evil for today.
