One day in prayer to the Lord,
the Holy Spirit in my heart
struck a chord. I asked Him
"How do I fulfillment find?".
So He planted a thought
down deep in my mind.
He said "Go ask the king".
So I went to the king
with my question in hand,
and his words to me were
like nothing I had planned.
All the notions that I had
before he took and threw
out the door.
"Meaningless, Meaningless
everything is meaningless
under the sun."
I asked him, "Can't we find
something new under the
sun, something that fulfills
our hearts?"
He replied, "There is nothing
new under the sun. Everything
that is done has been done
before.
I have studied and experienced
every pleasure known to man,
it has left me hollow and empty,
a shell, an empty can.
I have devoted myself to wisdom,
and seen all the things that are done,
but what a heavy burden I have,
I wish it would leave me alone.
I then tried folly, and all the
pleasures that wine could
bring. And for a while I was jolly,
but the hangover in the morning
sure did sting.
I acquired great riches,
and many structures I
did build; but happiness and
fulfillment, they did not yield.
Wise men and foolish men,
they all end up the same;
fate overtakes them both,
neither one anything gains."
I asked him for some more
of his wisdom, and how to find
fulfillment in this life, he replied
"Go, eat your food with gladness,
enjoy your life with the wife that you
love. Try to avoid to much sadness,
and to much joy, you need just enough.
Remember your Creator in your
youth, while you are still strong.
Remember your Creator,
before forever, your Spirit is gone."
My final conclusion in this matter is,
Fear God and keep his commandments,
and your fulfillment will be in your heart,
and your life, and heart, will not be consumed
in meaninglessness.
