Larry Lilly's Letter Monday April 10, 2006

I noticed over the weekend that several papers are supposing that we are preparing to attack Iran. Could be, I am not wise in those type of things. I sure hope not, I am the poster boy for trying the work things out. I know that for many years our country and Iran have been at each other's throat. And war? Well, you see the evening news and see the photos in the daily papers. A few, like me have watched as another hero is lowered into the earth to await the coming resurrection. Not a pretty site. And now, Iran?

I will leave the decision concerning such to those charged with such choices, magnum choices to be sure.

I will voice my thoughts on war and why all possible avenues to prevent war be used, and keep in mind I do not mean appeasement, but every just means first and then. And then….

The Bible portrays several end time battles with the next to last battle of the ages being commonly referred to as The Battle of Armageddon, to be fought in the Holy Land in the Valley of Megiddo. I understand the anti-christ will lead a coalition of earthlings against the coming of the Lord with His armies from heaven. This should be a most interesting battle. The Lord and the armies of heaven win hands down. Without going into minute detail at least one of the end time battles features Iran and Russia as allies.

Of course up to this point in world history there has not been a nuclear war. It is said that Iran has nuclear arms. I know, I know about Iraq's nuclear arms. While nuclear bombs are scary, invisible nuclear arms are downright frightening.

I recall while attending the second grade reading of the way many title deeds to property were worded, heavily using the phrase, By Right of Conquest. I asked my naïve sister Vera just what was meant by the phrase. We didn't have a dictionary. My sister discovered for me via her high school class that it meant when one country conquers another they gain right to the lands etc By Right of Conquest. Hence the United States holds title to skillions of acres via conquest of the different 'Indian' nations. Well, being the naughty lad that I was, I went to school and began acquiring 'property' By Right of Conquest set on enjoying the spoils of victory in the play ground wars common in my childhood. I discovered that I could only hold title to spoils until the weaker playground warrior complained (the wimp) to the teacher, and then the sweet spoils of battle were wrested from my little hand by a much larger hand. The bully teacher then returned to hard won spoil to the 'rightful' owner. When I, with all the aplomb of a jail house lawyer insisted on Right of Conquest rules, I was sent to the big Kahuna's office and there in that rarified clime was taught lessons about Right of Conquest I never really cared to learn. Someone should tell the American Indians what the principle did to me for attempting to better my position in life By Right Of Conquest.

You can readily see that I am a battle hardened man who understands life. Having presided over the memorial service for number of men killed in the line of duty, I always bring to memory, as much as I can with my limited play ground victories and losses, the horrible truth of war. It was posited by Albert Einstein and it makes sense when an all out nuclear war is considered as probable in WW3.

"I know not with what weapons World War 33 will be fought, but World War 4 will be fought with sticks and stones, for that is all that will be left."
