He Is Risen

With tear filled eyes, they gathered
All their hopes appeared to be shattered
When all had seemed to be going right
They took Him in the middle of night

Three days ago the deal was sealed
Hanging on the tree the Teacher was killed
Beaten until He could no longer be recognized
Striped and bloodied, with three spikes crucified

In a borrowed tomb wrapped in linen He lays
No longer there to lead them in their ways
Why? Why, Oh God, is what they cried
Because three days ago, Jesus had died

Mary and the other Mary made their plans
They took anointment spices into their hands
Approaching the tomb, they were given a fright
On the rolled back stone sat an angel in white

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?”
This is what the angel to the two ladies had said
Remember His words and let your hearts mend
The Son must be delivered, crucified, and rise again

Upon seeing the tomb empty and bare
They ran back with wonderful news to share
On the third day as Jesus had once said
So we may live, The Savior rose from the dead
