How to Handle Your Hurts

Victor Frankl said, "The last of human freedoms is the freedom to
choose one's attitude regardless of circumstances".
You cannot help when someone hurts you but you have the choice to
have the right attitude toward it. You have a choice to make to concertedly
stay close to God in the midst of a bad circumstance.
God will deal with the person who has hurt you, but your job is to
stay close to God even when you are hurt. Otherwise it will progress to
bitterness that is harder to get rid of in your life.
As a chaplain, I have noticed that generally people who are close to
God already when trouble comes, become closer to Him. While those who are
hardened toward God usually become more hard during adversity.
The Holy Spirit is working all the time in our lives to draw us
toward God, but we are ultimately responsible to make that choice for
ourselves.
How has adversity, illness, or whatever is happening in your life
affected your relationship with God? Have you let the hurts of your
existence rob you of that closeness you need? Yes, it takes time to work
through it when we are trampled on and abused by others. But the longer you
allow it to simmer unresolved, the more the acid of unforgiveness will burn
into your soul.
The other choice is to unreservedly commit those hurts to Him who
cares so much about you. I Peter 5:7 Forgive that person who has hurt you
as soon as possible and then go on. You will be blessed if you will follow
God's prescription for peace to rule your life. Hurt leads to hate, if you
let it. God's peace leads to prosperity for your body, mind, and soul.
