Welcome to Dinner

Come, please enter my home
I know how much you roam
Going from place to place
Sharing to all Your sweet grace

Please sit at the head of my table
While I put your colt in my stable
Allow me to wash Your dusty feet
Once You have taken your seat

It is such an honor to have You
I am not worthy of such blessings
May I anoint Your head with oil?
I pray that my soul is fertile soil

I am so glad that You could come
Here is all I have to offer, take some
A little fish and bread so small
But please, I beg You to take it all

Some may ask how you can have dinner
With a lowly tax collector and a sinner
I am thankful that it is the sick You call
And that You lift me up from my fall.

Thank you for forgoing Your fast
And taking the time to heal my past
I welcome You to come dine with us
Thank you for Your grace, Lord Jesus

Brothers and Sisters,

The Lord gave this writing to me for one of the weekly challenges. I was at faithwriters looking at other works when I looked to see what the challenge topic for the week was. It was “Enter”, now come on, whose mind did jump through a million options to write a Christian work about “Enter”. Me! So I prayed, I knew that there were plenty of ideas, I just wanted one that was expressive of how Jesus has worked in my life.

So I started typing, the above is the original flow as the Lord revealed it. It is truly how I feel (as most of you write from the heart like I do, you can relate). As I read it over I noticed what I thought was a flaw in the rhyme and reason. If you didn’t notice blessings does not rhyme with You. I thought that is an easy enough fix, but I didn’t fix it. Every time I tried it just did sit right with my soul. So I trusted the Lord and entered it in the contest as is. No it is not a winner, but it is for me because of a small obedience to the leading of the Spirit. I wanted to fix that flaw so badly, but I resisted because that is how I was led.

After getting my first comment on this poem the Lord revealed to me the reason behind the flaw. Someone was kind enough to point out the difficulty with some of the rhyming. I understand it bothered me too. As I was re-reading the poem the Lord revealed that my poetry is a reflection of my life and like my poem I too am flawed. Does that change the meaning of the poem? Not really, it still holds true. Though I am flawed in the middle I am redeemed by His grace. God has enough grace to overcome my flaws. God has enough grace to overcome all our flaws. God has enough grace and mercy to forgive us our flaws. God sent His only Son to die for our flaws. My advice to you, if you haven’t already done so, try inviting the Lord Jesus to your table (and your life). He entered this sinners home, He will enter yours too if you let Him. God bless.

A servant of Christ,
Christian

I especially like your last stanza. It is so sweet. Your poem seems to maintain a rhyme of a,a,b,b, except for the third stanza. You switch it up slightly then return to the a,a,b,b. I love the story of Zacchaeus! Great choice of topic to include in your piece. I'm excited to see how your work develops in the next few months. Please keep posting. May God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ give you grace and peace.
