No Root No Fruit
Can a small tree bear big fruit? No, It’s roots are too small, and it’s trunk, and branches are not strong enough and too immature to handle it. Then how is it that Christians wish for the big fruit, yet their roots are too small, and their trunk and branches are to weak to handle it? You can not. No. It takes time to develop a strong fruitful tree. First it is planted into the ground, and given water and fertilizer because it’s roots are in new soil. It’s roots are shallow, so it is staked up for support. Then the bad branches must be pruned, so the healthy fruitful ones can grow, and become stronger. Then it must be nurtured, and protected until it grows strong, and becomes well rooted.
The same goes for us, Before we can obtain our spiritual promises we must first grow stronger, and become more deeply rooted into the nourishing waters of Jesus. He said “whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life”(John 4:14)
One night I was praying, and God gave me a vision. In this vision, I saw a darkness inside of me, but with in the darkness was a very small white light, about the size of a seed. There it was planted into my body, and then a bright white light shined on the side, and I heard a voice say, “this is the seed that is planted into all whom are born again, nourish it with the Word, and it will grow strong, and become well rooted in you.” I then realized this is true in scripture, for Mark 4:30 says, “How shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or in what parable shall we set it forth? It is like a grain of mustard seed , which, when it is sown upon the earth, though it be less than all the seeds that are upon the earth, yet when it is sown, groweth up, and becometh greater than all the herbs, and putteth out great branches; so that the birds of the heaven can lodge under the shadow thereof.”
You see, Jesus is giving a spiritual law in this passage. An insight of how God works in us, for he does not force himself upon us. But we must first seek him for nourishment, and the more we seek after him, then the seed he planted in us will sprout, and grow. You see, the devil works in the same matter. He comes and finds fertile ground, and cast his own seeds onto it. Then the sin nourishes his seed, and they grow big and strong, rooted deeply inside of you. However, when God placed his seed in us, the sins of our former lives, over shadows the seedling. The seeds of sin are already planted within us, and grown, and well rooted. That is why Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “I beat my body and make it into my slave, so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.” That is the only way we ourselves can overcome the sins that have grown in us. We have to cut off the nourishment given when sinning, and give God’s nourishment to the seed he has given. Then just as Jesus said, the seed will grow to be the biggest plant in the garden, and it will over shadow the sin planted in you.
If you will grow in him, then your roots will be anchored firmly, and nourished by the living waters. Your trunk will be strong, and unbudged by the wind. Your branches will stretch out, and flower. Then the fruit will come forth, and will be sweet to eat. Righteous fruit can only come from God, the fruit of sin comes from the devil. Both produce fruit in their season. The fruit given by God gives abundant life, for it is sweet to taste. But bitter fruit from the devil brings death, and torment.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness (James 3:17).
Let us place our minds on Christ, so the seed he planted within us will prosper, and grow to bear it’s fruit in season. Just as Jesus went to the fig tree for it’s fruit, but found none; he will do the same to us. He will come and seek the good fruit, and what ever branches is found with bad fruit, he will cut it off. If there is bad fruit, then he will pluck it off and cast it away. Jesus said that bad fruit can not come from a good tree, nor can good fruit come from a bad tree. You can not share space, and expect blessings. It does not work that way. No. If you let Brier Vines grow upon your grapes, then the thorny vine will over power the grape, and choke it. It is better to cut out the Brier before it can start, that way, you will have nothing to hinder the fruit.
Jeremiah 17:7 states, “Blessed is the man who trust in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes, its leaves are aways green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
If you are well rooted in Christ Jesus, then you will never fail to bear fruit. That is a promise he has given in his word.
The root can not deepen without obedience, and growth can not occur without love. It is not the knowledge of God that allows you to grow, but it is love. 1 Corinthians 8:1-3 says, “knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know, but the man who loves God is known by God.” You see, true knowledge of God is love, for knowledge from God is given by love. The greatest commandment Jesus stated was to love the Lord with all your heart, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. He also said those who love him will obey his commands. You see, theology is good to a point, but it does not save. It is the love of God, whom gave his only begotten son, as an atoning sacrifice. Jesus is all that matters, it is all about him and his love for us. We did not love him, but he loved us first, and into each one of us he has planted his seed of love. However, without him the seed will never sprout. Without his food, it will never grow, and without his living water it will never flourish. It will only be choked out by the sin it shares space with. But you and I can make an effort, and seek God’s face. Say to yourself and others, “May the Lord bless and keep you, the Lord make his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you, the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Num 6:24) Without the Lord you can do nothing, but with the Lord all things are possible for those that believe. Blessed is the man who obeys the Word of the Lord, and meditates upon them day and night, for he or she is like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he or she does prospers, not by their own hands, but by the Lord (Psalms 1).
