The Greatest Love Is The Love Of God
By
Calvin Moss

Jesus says in St. John 15:12: This is my commandment that ye love one another as I have loved you. My statement is: The greatest love is the love of God.

The love of God is the greatest love because while we were yet sinners Christ died for us. Although we deserve death God gave his Son so that we could receive life. St. John 3:16 says for God so love the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. God loves us more than we love ourselves. He came down in the form of sinful flesh yet he was without sin.

The love of God is agape meaning unconditional. No matter what we have done God is willing to forgive us of our sin. Man`s love is conditional which means he has restrictions or limitations on his love. Man loves those who love him and hates those who hate him.

As Christians, one of our goals is to develop in the God kind of love (for some of us it is going to take faith to love some people). Love is a fruit of the spirit and should be part of our character. First John 4:7 says beloved, let us love one another for love is of God and everyone that loveth is born of God and knoweth God.

We cannot say we love God and hate our brother and sister for we know that hate is the same as murder. Love does not backbite or sow discord. Love is faithful and considerate of others. Whenever we show the love of God we also show the world that we belong to God. The love of Christ constraineth us if we have the Spirit of God dwelling within us.

So Jesus says this is my commandment that ye love one another, as I have loved you. Although we may not be perfect in love, the greatest love is the love of God. Amen.
