The Control in My Science Project

I figured I would make this my debut article since it’s the freshest revelation in my life.


I currently work under a supervisor who I esteem highly. She is a woman of ethic and she inspires me to do better not only at my job but in my personal life. I even bought her a thank you card to tell her I appreciated her character and her integrity. I often mentioned her name when people asked me who I look to as a role model. I sat in her office and she gave me examples of how to create more options for my current job and in my personal life. In my eyes…she could do no wrong or even further, she would never turn on me or mistreat me. She was just that cool. WRONG!


Until one day some co-workers and I were joking around and some surrounding teams and managers were complaining about the noise. As soon as I let out my laugh, I hear “Uh, Tomitchell” and in respect I always reply “Yes Mam”. So, I go over to her desk in haste and long behold, she flipped the script on a sister. Before I could get in her office she commences in plain terms to “go off” on me. She is not only yelling at me in front of other co-workers but I felt like I was in 1st grade again. She told me she was going to move my seat and set me apart from everyone else. She has never counseled me about this problem before but according to her, she’s told me numerous times to keep my voice down. Keep in mind it was a group of co-workers making noise, not just me. Naturally, felt singled-out and picked on and to encompass it I was embarrassed, angry and extremely upset.

On the way home I could not get this incident off of my brain.


But in a quiet voice, God spoke to me and said,”I’m the only constant you have”. In this moment I realized that God is the only control in our science project. The variables of life ; trials, tribulations, circumstances, problems, family issues, financial binds, spiritual bondage, sickness, happiness, joy, peace, love and laughter. All of these things change constantly but He is the only controlled factor. I realized that God is the only one that will never switch out and turn His back. It was a quiet rebuke but I took the correction and learned a huge lesson in my moment of humility. You see the moment was never about my feelings getting hurt, it was to show me, don’t esteem people too highly to where you’re blinded at the fact that they are still human. This is exactly why the Word tells us to put no faith in man. And God is not willing to compete with anyone.


Listen to me brother or sister reading this. Hebrews 12:2 tells us to fix our eyes on Jesus. When you fix something, it’s hard to swagger and sway it. God is the only guarantee and constant thing we have in our lives. He’s the only one that we can come back to and He’s still the same. That’s why He has to be the center of everything in our lives. We have to build our lives and the people we love around Him. Not Him building His will around us and on our busy schedules.
Until my next article, please understand that God is the only controlled factor in the science project we call life.
