Devotionals
Have you wondered what your life would look like if you could have anything you wanted? Would you be happy? Do you think you would do things differently? I doubt it very much. People who win the lottery usually end up in bankruptcy and broken families. But when you have God you go from nothing to everything! By nothing, I mean only this world and its idols of wealth that are not obtainable by most people.
Sometimes I sit and wonder just what would happen if one day God decided to give us everything we wanted—and I mean everything. I could only imagine how unhappy we would be. First of all, some things we think we want would stop us from staying close to God. I believe that in life, we are happiest when we work towards our goals. Paul says we are to strive or reach towards our goal in Christ Jesus, so it makes sense that we have to strive or work for everything else too. Faith in God just makes it easier to reach. For that reason, without God, we would be nothing of worth. Jesus said, “Ask whatsoever of the Father in my name and He shall give it unto thee.” Matt. 7:7..KJV. When you develop a real relationship with Jesus, you don’t worry and ask for cars and riches. He gives us our needs and is always with us, if we believe.
I would rather starve to death than to give up God for everything in this world. God blessed some of us and he also blessed us with the poor and they are unable to care for themselves. It gives great pleasure for those who have to be able to help those in need of food, shelter and more important spiritual help. I have been helped on many occasions and have helped others on other occasions. So let us who ‘Have’ help those who do not and in the meantime gain pleasure in knowing that God is with us always.
Lord Jesus, help each of us to understand your ways and to desire a stable relationship with you. We recognize that we are nothing without you. Help us Lord to see those in need and to help where we are able. Give us the strength to stay in focus of our goal, which is You and the Kingdom. Amen
