Should I live near someone I care about?

Q. I have a chance to move to a new location to be near someone I care about. She is already married to someone else, but I would be there for moral support. This person she is married to abuses her. Should I move to where she is to be near her?. There would be no romantic involvement.

A. From the tone of your question I can tell you care about this person very deeply. You are putting yourself in a tempting situation by wanting to move near this person who is already married, and the Bible admonishes us not to do this, as well as to shun the appearance of evil. It is bad enough to put yourself in the way of temptation in this manner, but you are also endangering your witness as a Christian by pursuing this.
You appear to already be in love with this person, and by moving close to her it would make you miserable and lead to unwanted complications, let alone what it would do to you spiritually.
The best thing you can do for her is pray for her, then perhaps suggest some counseling or going to a shelter for abused women where she would be safe. The situation will only get worse if you keep on this present path you are on with this woman. I will be praying that you make the right decision.
