When my family was preparing to move to the Upper Peninsula, we had traveled up to the Keweenaw Peninsula so that my dad could preach at his new church. My older brother Dan and I made new friends among the teens at Bethany Baptist Church. They asked us about how we planned to travel back downstate. They suggested that we travel highway 28. They bragged that when they got to the Seney Stretch they traveled it at hundred miles an hour. The Seney Stretch between Munising and Seney on highway 28 is a long quiet straight section of highway that traveled through the swamps of the U.P.
As we passed Munising our parents had fallen asleep in the back of the borrowed Oldsmobile station wagon. So Dan drove the Olds faster and faster, till he powered it at hundred miles an hour across the Seney Stretch. We both laughed with delight at the feat of getting this grocery carrier to fly. This woke up our mom who was properly suspicious of our giggles. She woke to watch the trees flying by her rear window. She realized that Dan was driving very fast. So she told him to slow down. He went to ninety miles an hour and our sleepy mom said, “That’s better.” We laughed with more delight then two bears in a U.P. dump.
Ninety miles per hour is not the posted speed limit of 55 miles an hour. This reminds me, we can not trust our eyes or our minds as we fly through life. The only standard that works is God’s Standard. We must us the holy plum line of God’s truth.

Isaiah 28:17, “I will make justice the measuring line and righteousness the plumb line; hail will sweep away your refuge, the lie, and water will overflow your hiding place.”

Amos 7:7&8, “This is what he showed me: The Lord was standing by a wall that had been built true to plumb, with a plumb line in his hand. And the LORD asked me, "What do you see, Amos?" "A plumb line," I replied. Then the Lord said, "Look, I am setting a plumb line among my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.”

Psalm 139:23, “Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.”
